Thursday we were headed up to Statesville to get an 84 Impala and were doing about 70 when there was a loud bang and we lost drive. I coasted over to the side of the road and Steph noticed that the transfer case shifter was in neutral. I figured Heath had hit it when he was playing in the truck and it took a while to pop all the way out.
I stuck it back in 2hi and we headed up the road again.
We go the Impala on the tow dolly and headed home and about 20 miles later the thing jumped into neutral again. I coasted over and put it back in 2hi and we headed off again. About a mile later it did it again. I got it back in gear and drove the rest of the way to Hickory holding the shifter in gear.
We stopped to eat and I found a small ratchet strap in the truck and used it to hold the shifter in gear.
When We got home I found that the drivers side engine mount was broken and the transmission mount was collapsed.
I had to run around all day Friday taking care of small stuff in Steph's truck so the BlueOx sat till Saturday. I replaced the mounts Friday and then spent the rest of the day and all day Saturday fixing electrical problems that have cropped up and didn't get it all put back together till today.
The test drive was a miserable failure. It doesn't jump out of gear it just grinds horrifically.
I got under it and played with the shifter a while and I found that if I keep pressure on it I it will stay in gear if I keep tension against it but it clanks horribly going into gear.
SOOOO anyone wanna donate to the save the BlueOx fund LOL.
