Finished the TA finally. Engine was done a couple years but never put a ton of miles on it. It always had a little tick, which just sounded like normal LS tick and the oil pressure was fine and no shavings or anything.

Well, took it to the mountain with some friends and beat the snot out of the car. Tick turned into a little rattle and by the time I got it home it had no power and there is some metal in the oil. Fucking brand new lifter failed and apparently wiped the cam.

Motor comes back out. Now it'll get Katech heads and a fatter cam. And the whole motor disassembled and cleaned. Ugh.
 
LS engines are great but they do have some drawbacks, lifters being one of them.
Helped a buddy do an Ls swap a while back. 5.3 had sat for a while and apparently it’s common for the injectors gun up and get stuck open. Fired it up and then it was a couple days before he got back to it, fired it up again and it started knocking instantly. Apparently a cylinder had a lot of fuel in it and it bent a rod, had to pull it right back out. :driver:
 
Everything on this motor was brand new except the rotating assembly, which was freshened up. Fucking brand spanking new lifters and one took a shit.

Not too upset about it, it's a built car and it'll break. Just more pissed about not having the car again for a while.
