to pick up my new to me CJ-10. Leslie and I drove the RV(Hillbilly Hilton) pulling my trailer. The RV is old, and the headlights I will say were the same ones on it when sold. Hot Halogen! After a short drive to Hickory, I realized I needed to do something for the long drive to Fort Bragg country. I stopped and bought to new headlights, and a starting battery, which I new was on it's way out. New headlights sure made a difference.
We arrived in Fayetteville around 1:30 Saturday morning, and camped out in a Wal-Mart parking lot. I know it's not the Holiday Inn select, but do you think it's commercial worthy? LOL
Met up with James (nc4x4dude on this board) Saturday morning. He pulled the CJ-10 up on my trailer with his Grand. A couple of snags with width, some jacking, prying the wheels to get it to go where we wanted and it was up. We had to lift the trailer bed(soon to be truck bed) up on the rear of the Jeep and strap it down. All in all not too bad.
While there I drooled over his other projects. HE has a 70's model deuce that has been cut down to single real axle. It's massive! Kewl plans for that one. He also had a 48 Willy's overland that's gonna be home to an electric engine, and a 52 Willy's truck that's for sale here too.
All nice stuff. James is a great guy and very helpful to boot. Highly recommended seller.
The RV got around 6 mpg for the trip, doing 55-60 mph.
Took about 5 hours driving time.
Don't eat at the McDonald's at the Wal-Mart (nasty at 8 am in the morning)
A kewl thing happened while there. I had the dogs Semi and Sophie out to pee and poop around 7 or so, and a young guy pulled in with his Texas tagged SUV and said " Excuse me sir, I am in the Army and don't get much chance to pet dogs, is it alright to pet yours?" I said sure, so he rubbed them both up real good, some chit chat and he left. I thought it sad kinda, and figured he had some dogs at home that he missed. Maybe even a little home sick too. Was kinda neat though.
