What are you doing to save fuel $$

I work remote (from home) 1-2 days a week. Started car pooling with a coworker. I save $8 everyday I work at home or ride.

I pass many stores on the way home, so I try to do my shopping on the way home.

Driving - I posted about hypermiling a while ago. I have learned a lot from driving my little beater car that I've carried over to my tauraus I've getting 25-26mpg. Mainly its just not mashing the gas and then the brakes. I drive a good bit of congested traveling and leaving 2-3 car buffer really helps from the panic stops and rabbit take offs.

Tires - as said watch the air pressure, idealy each person/car should chalk the tires to find the optimal pressure for best wear. Many people will over inflate them for the best MPG but IMHO depending on how much your tires cost it may not pay off later on.

nothing....work more, travel less. May go the 50/50 used motor oil route in my CTD....(flame suit on). We've moved on from Vegi oil as it's getting too hard to get.

Oh yeah...I drive a 300k mile Accord that gets over 30mpg.

Take the TDI to work as much as possible. Mix 50/50 bio/dino. TDI is getting about 33 mpg the CTD gets 18 around town.

Pretty cool that the TDI has a "fuel usage" gauge. Kinda gives you an idea of what you are using right now...accelerate trying to keep the numbers down as much as possible...Coast when I can.

I've always been pretty good at clumping trips together. Go out once a week to do both the grocery stores, the sLowes run, get fuel, yada, yada, yada.

i'm driving my 04 toyota prius.108.000 miles and still gives
42-45 mpg every tankfull. around 50 on road trips.

Here is what I did. Move to Wilmington, got a new job. New company provides me a car and gave a credit card to pay for the gas. Gotta love a subaru that gets 30mpg.

I drive the Honza (nickname my roommate gave it, it stuck) and use cruise control. I get 34 mpg regularly.

Taking my lunch to work. Saves on so many things (gas going somewhere, blowing ~30 bucks a week, not getting fat).

I'm moving closer to where I'll be working. The rent is cheaper and I can either take the bus or ride my bike. If nothing else its a ~35 minute hike. However I'd like to take the bus because there are 7 bars on the road home.

On second thought, maybe I'll walk...

I drive an 82 V8 buick with a busted water pump, dirty air filter, about 5000 miles over oil change, 4 different tires all with different air pressure, and a couple hundred lbs of junk in the back. Some call me crazy, I call it motivation for finishing the Jeep.

I drive my beat up old honda instead of my 2500 chevy to work everyday. 150 in fuel vs 40 in fuel.

X2 Bet mines got more miles on it! 381,000 and still got 35 mpg to the beach with the A/C blowin icicles!:wheel:

I bought 5000 gallons of gas 5 years ago @ 1.29/gal and a 3cyl geo metro off one of my homies for 100 bucks. Everyone laughed then but WHO'S LAUGHING NOW!

i'm laughing if you are using 5 year old gas. i wouldn't run 5 year old gas in my gas powered blender let alone my car.

no i took off all the cobra wheels this weekend, not just the one that ate the curbing for supper:flipoff2:

hahaha, gotcha gotcha....

I don't drive my Dodge 2500 unless I'm towing the rig. Other times I use my DWI scooter, Yamaha Razz, @ 75 MPG or walk.

Ive started rolling stop signs as much as possible, and carrying as much speed through sharp corners as I can. Tires are $300/set, and a tank of diesel is $75, so if I save 4 tanks, and only get 30k miles, it'll be ok, and Ill have more fun. If I get the 50k miles that Im supposed to, it'll be great. Also, timing redlights so that you don't have to slow down is helpful. Biggest thing I did was buy a TDI Passat back when diesel was $3/gallon. $4.75/gallon sucks, but it helps to get 625 miles for $75, and only fill up once every week and a half (driving 80 miles round trip to work).

you know you can freeze bread and it taste the same. The downfall is it has to thaw at room tempture, so you have to pull the bread out of the freezer when you are running low

I am... doing nothing. I very rarly have the need to get in my car and go somewhere. Hell I drove the jeep today knowing it needs gas. I live close enough to work I do not use alot of gas, I fill up once every two weeks, and then it is about 30 dollars a tank.

You have a gas powered blender? Cool!

This dosn't sound very safe.... Stop Tires Or Park :flipoff2:

Keep in mind... 1 ticket or accident will kill all your "savings".

I bought a new garden hose and cut it into short lengths.
I now get more exercise(at night when its cooler) by patroling neighbors driveways. If their cars look to heavy...I use my hose to help remove weight from the tank. And since I dont wanna pour fuel/gas on the ground, I am storing and disposing of it with my own vehicles. I will do anything to help my neighbors,Thats what friends are for!
^^^Thats a joke of course....I did'nt buy a new hose..I cut the end off an old one:beer:

1 block:flipoff2:
I've stopped driving the CTD as much as possible, I'm down to half a tank every 2wks. I'm looking forward to getting my wifes ZX2 Freshscort(30-35mpg) and getting her a well deserved new vehicle soon;)

It might increase drag, unless you also take out the rear side windows AND the rear window. Air flows in and can't get out.

yeah that's what i meant. i can really tell a difference when i have the rear windows in vs with them out. i did my paper route last night and it normally takes about 3/4 of a tank. i did it using 1/2 a tank last night due to slower speeds. kept it right at the speed limit this time instead of +10 or so like normally. i usually tend to keep up with traffic but noticed a significant difference when i drove like i was s'posed to :)

don't hate cause it takes me close to two months before the Honda needs fuel from my 14 second commute across the street to work. Oh yeah, and I live in the least expensive house I own and it's across the street from work. The downside is I'm having to learn spanish, jive and whatever they speak in Vietnam to converse with my neighbors.

You don't roll them when there are cars or people around. Im talking pointless 4way stops in quiet neighborhoods. I hate stopping simply because the govt says to.
