I just bought a 93 Jeep YJ. The axles are stock and the rear axle is busted (suprise, suprise)!!!! I looking in to doing an axle swap just not sure wich way to go! The jeep has a 3 inch body lift which I am going to remove and it also has a shackle lift.. It has 35 inch tires and every thing I've been reading say to get rid of the stock axles!!!! I wondering what is a good axle to run??? The jeep will bee driven on the road 75% of the time and do some light wheeling till the other jeep is done!! Mostly URE!!! The jeep is 6 cylinder 5spd. My other jeep is a 75 CJ5 with a dana 44 with one piece axles in it would that be good swap or should I go full width and if so WHAT????? Any help is greatly appreciated!!!! Oh yeah I would like to know something that want be to diffcuilt to build steering for!!! and budget minded!!!!:

Wagoneer D44's would be my suggestion, although they are 6-lug. If you plan on keeping it 75% street driving, I wouldn't do full-widths. Waggy 44's and ~35" tires would be my suggestion. Also, do a shackle reversal on the front while you are at it.

Waggys came with either a D44 or AMC 20 rear, either will work, but the D44 has more gearing options, and is probably a better axle (cheaper parts, single piece shafts, etc).

What year wagoneer? and what abou the steering?

80 and up waggy fronts are DSD. Watch out for the 83/84 axles with the vacum disco's. You will have to ream out the pitman arm for the larger drag link. If I remember, 86 and up had D44 rears. Pretty much a simple swap. Just need new wheels.

You will have to ream out the pitman arm for the larger drag link.

I do believe that the wagoneer pitman arm will fit on a YJ box. You can either get a snap-on part #R121 reamer (correct taper), or just get a wagoneer pitman arm to put on it.

Chromos in the front and put a Ford 8.8 in the back and call it done unless you plan on going with something bigger than a 35" tire. Good luck if you go with Waggy axles and trying to find a centered 44 rear.

im with joel on this one, the most cost effective way to upgrade your yj is witha 8.8 in the rear and chromo the 30.i have been happily abusing this combo for a while now.

What year exploder should the 8.8 come from and what all is involved as far as e-brake and regular brakes??? Also should I get one that already has Limited slip or just a regular one and buy a locker??? I'm thinking I need to run the 4.10 ratio???

I think it was '95 and newer for disc brakes. Try to get the eintire ebrake setup with the axle! makes everything easier and cheaper. I would get an open carrier. If you get a LS and then decide you want a locker you'll need to get a carrier too.

swappin axles for 25% light off road use? fix what you got and wheel it. focus on your other project

waggy 44 front/yota IFS rear. cheap, tough, simple

just so you guys know , he got an 8.8 for the rear and chromo,s for the front. he is putting them in at his house right now. i was just over there a couple of hours ago.
