What axles should a 84 full size cherokee have? I figure the front should be a D44, but would it be pass or drivers drop? What type of rear should it have?

83 was the last year of the full-size cherokee (SJ) waggy's went through 91 and J-trucks went through 87

It should have driver drop D44 front and AMC 20 rear (one-piece)

with either 2.72 or 3.31 gears if it's stock

And what years had the disconnect 44 front? I have seen some early 80's models with it.

There were a few 88 J-trucks

I have mostly seen them in 83-85 trucks with a 229 transfer case.

If the truck has a 208 or 219 then it should be a "normal" d44

228 was 1986 only and Idon't really know anything about the front axles then, but it was sometime that year that they switched from the AMC20 rear back to a D44
