What book for 10th grade boy to inspire and captivate?

Thanks everyone. He started reading Call of the Wild. Next up is American Sniper. Then Where the Red Fern Grows…
If he likes American Sniper I have several other "Modern military history" books I can recommend. Both books Marcus Luttrell wrote are good. Lone Survivor, and Service.

I read a Louise Lamoir (sp) book on the Sacketts, could not put it down, hated it when I got to the end, then seen a page in the back of the book that give the names of the whole series. I went to several old book stores and finally found them all, read them all in order, even the one I had already read. fastest I had ever read that many books! Some of the books I bought(all paperback) had a price of $.25 and $.50. I am sure at some point they have been re-printed.

Also, Jaws. That was one book I can say was much better than the movie it''s self. Big, thick book that was very difficult to put down.

My dad LOVES Louis L'Amour. Has an entire bookshelf full of his books.

Not exactly what I would call inspiring, but my go-to books in high school were anything by John Grisham or Tom Clancy books with Jack Ryan as the protagonist.

Peter Benchley. Of The Deep and The Island. I had to google him I knew I read some of his other works. This thread is making me want to go look for old book I read as a teen......

I need books that will inspire my 15 year old!

He’s a great kid (aren’t they all 🙄), and I want books that will interest him while inspiring him. I’ve thought of some of the classics (Call of the Wild, Where the Red Fern Grows, The Black Stallion…), but wanted to hear your thoughts.

So, what books have you or your boys read that had an impact or they just couldn’t put down?
I'd suggest The Count of Monte Cristo.
The movie, made in early 2000's was one that actually did a good job of capturing the mystique of the book.

Another vote for the Hatchet series.

Wife is a high school teacher here's her short list for the fellas:
Trevor Noah - Born a Crime
Sherman Alexis - The Absolute True Diary of a Part-time Indian
Chris Kyle- American Sniper
James Dashner- The Maze Runner
Jason Reynolds- Long Way Down
John Green- Looking For Alaska ( language and sex included)
Joseph Bruchac- Code Talker

Mild brag. She teaches English lit from all modern works. Bit of a Maverick, goes against all the old crows and gets herself teacher of the year awards. She says these are her middle of the road books for male average readers.

Y'all make me feel like an idiot, I have honestly never read an entire book. I started a few but never could stay interested.

"You'll like that one. It's about a prison break."
"Maybe that should go under educational too!"

^from another great book/movie......

Louis L'Amour, never read one I didn't like. And they were a heckuva influence on me growing up.

My favorite book of all time is 'Gates of Fire' by Stephen Pressfield. HIGHLY recommend that one.

It's about the last stand of the 300 Spartans and their allies at Thermoplayae. And it's amazing. I read it about once a year, and I ALWAYS have to buy a new copy because I loan mine out and never get them back. Even after reading it probably a half dozen times now, the ending still gets me all emotional.
