getting closer to the end of my build.
i'm wondering what is the weak links in a ford 60 mid 80s era.

i have SOLID knuckles so i'm not worried about those.
how long will the shafts last?
stock hubs?

i'm running a 4.6 stroker in my jeep so its not 100% stock.
5.38 gears will be added and maybe a loc-right or some kind of cheap locker.

i know alot of ppl can build these up, RCV's. Jana 67 KIT. and so forth

The 30 spline stock stub shafts will probably be the first thing to break. With a 4.6 stroker , 42" tires, and low gears, I wouldn't even bother loading it on the trailer to go wheeling without upgrading to 35 spline stub shafts and some new Spicer U-joints at a minimum.

You already addressed the knuckles, like he said- at minimum new Spicer joints and 35spline stubs (and not warn lockouts). That being said, if you really beat on things just go straight to alloy shafts, tthey're a lot cheaper now than they used to be.

thanks. i kinda thought the stock shafts and lockouts would hold up. but i guess i'll same my pennies to get some 35 cromos or alloy.

I broke a warn "premium" hub. I think I was on 35's, but may have been 38's. 4Lo 3rd gear redline bouncing on rocks...

For the cost I'd just run a removable drive slug.

I know. Just buy it as I can. Then install when I have all parts. Is Rock Crusher still in business? I have their slugs but missing a few parts.

YOU???????:flipoff2::lol: I would have paid to have seen that.

35spl and flanges. Dynatrac has the only hubs I would run but they're $$$.
That was back when I used to wheel...:flipoff2:

the only thing i have broke.. is a tcase input.. stock 60 gears and locker on 40's.. id run it till something fails that was my plan took a year before anything did. But then again i only have maybe 92 Hp lol

Chromo 35spl stubs, Spicer Joints and slugs...Unless you're trying to become a hill killer and you have SOME sense with the skinny pedal this setup will hold up just fine.

FWIW when I built up the 60 in my old truggy I got all that stuff from RPM Offroad. Killer prices and occasionally you can get the naked trucker girl slugs.

FWIW, the engine in your jeep could break stock shafts with ease. I believe the previous owner of it broke a chromo stub or two with 42's......

That's a good point the reason no body has problems with them in Toyotas is because they only have about 82 hp :D
