WHAT DID I MISS?

OK, been hearing about how great switching/adding a Ford Taurus fan to help with engine cooling. I've just bought a unit which fits a 90-95 3.8 engine. Problem is, not enough room between the radiator and waterpump pulley. Should add that this modification is for my '84 CJ7 w/4.2 eng. What did I miss?
Am I to have to settle with a flex fan? Appreciate some input - many thanks.

did you trim the shroud? Some people are having to trim the shroud down enough so that they can offset the fan to avoid contact.

If I remember correctly once you trim the shroud to fit flush to the radiator you can flip it upside down and will have clearance for the pulley, may also have to switch the studs on the pulley out for hex head bolts.
