What do I need to know about harlan?

I have been probably 50 times. I have stayed at just about every place there and never had any problems or felt I needed a gun. I now stay in a toy hauler. Not because of security but because of convenience and comfort.
 
Just got back from there. The dairy hut is open and running thru the Marathon. It was super slick.
 
I can't seem to find much info on the campgrounds in the park. I thought it was all primitive camping but it sounds like there's showers at the Sycamore Campground. That would be awesome it there was!!
 
The sycamore campground is where I stayed last year. It was very nice with platforms for tents, and the shower house is right down the road. It is actually a very nice shower house too.
 
Heading up tomorrow with both rigs.
Staying in Evarts.
Look for a clusterfuck of rednecks @ the campground,that would be us.
The good looking chick in a red yj buggy on tons is my wife Deanna.
The ugly fawker in a black cj that looks like it fell out of an airplane would be me.

Just got back from my first trip. This is an awesome place to say the least! Stayed in evarts behind the dairy hut with no issues. One thing that needs to added to tits thread is Larry's ATV Welding. Ripped one of the brackets for my hydro assist off in lions den. A buddy gave me his number. Called him and he was able to modify a set of tabs to work, cut the old ones off and weld on new ones for a VERY fair price with great work. I'm including a pic of his business card. Defiantly a good contact to have if you need some welding done while you're there.

There is actually a couple of campsites up on the mountain. I know one is complete with built in grills! Call Black Mountain OHV and ask them about it.

Never felt like I needed a gun there. We camp behind the Dairy Hut. Never had an issue. As in anywhere, lock up yer stuff!

If you camp on the mountain, a gun is prob a good idea, because this place is WAAAAY bigger than Uwharrie and WAAAAAY more full of wildlife. (Note: There is a sign as you enter Black Mountain OHV that reads "no firearms". Hmmmmmm!)

That reads, Bears, Cats, Coyotes, along with the usual assortment of snakes and shit.
 
Were going in a couple of weeks and staying just inside the park on the Evarts side at Sycamore Camp near the zipline area. We've never stayed thereit'll be a first for us but it's somewhere new and we may not like it and never do it again..........but were gonna try it anyway
