what do you guys think?

When I was looking for a tow rig, I contemplated the IDI 7.3 in the early 90's fords. I had a lot of people tell me it could barely get out of its on way. I may be mistaken, but I thought those engines were not turbos from the factory, so you may want to ask the owner if that is an aftermarket turbo.

That's not a powerstroke. There is I think 1 or 2 years where the IDI came from the factory with a turbo.

Check oilburners.net.

They like these motors, although it won't put out the big numbers of the newer stuff.

Depending on if the SCA had been maintained properly internal cavitation would start killing them unmaintained at about 300k. Also at 300k you would want to know more about chassis/suspension/brakes etc..

FWIW, I stopped looking at diesels over ~270k just because even if the motor can handle that many miles doesn't mean the rest of the body and suspension can.

I would sell you my '96 2wd regular cab cummins for just a little more than that one... PM me if you are interested.

I really prefer to stay away from a single cab because the rig would mainly be used to tow a fifth wheel camper to the beach/ mountains on vacation trips and I dont want to drive 2 vehicles.

what year did ford go psd? Looks like I see a few 95 that say psd? If this is the psd what is the ups and downs of this year truck and how are the trans?

Late 95. The Zf5 5spd is indestructable. The auto however ehhh... My 97 has 205k on it and still has the stock clutch even. You can get a 96-98 truck for 5-6k if you shop around! The OBS trucks have the same compressor wheel ( wicked wheel)that the newer 7.3 trucks upgrade to.
