what does siping tires mean

It can shorten tire life in rocks though through chunking. Siping isn't the same as grooving but they both improve traction. Especially in ice/rocks. I haven't found anyone in morganton that can sipe a tire but have always heard to ask semi-truck tire dealers. I do have a tire groover though and have been thinking about how to make decent tire siper.

If you have the pistol grip style Ideal Heat Knife (tire groover) you can just flip the blade and use it as a siper. The sipes look almost invisible when you first do them, but after the tires get some use they open up.

Some Discount Tire locations will do it for you as well for around $10 a tire I think.

ive been doin some research and every place that does it has a machine that sipes the tires, are there any tire stores that have these machines

call around and ask local tire shops. for what they might charge, you could buy your own $80 groover and flip the blade. I borrowed someone's groover and siped my own by flipping hte blade. Its easier than grooving because you're just slicing, not removing any material.

I skimmed the blades across the steel belts, but my tires were close to spent. With those new tires, I would go maybe 1/4" deep. It was really easy, took like like 15 mins per 35" BFG AT. Dunno if it helped, but everyone else on the internet was doing it :driver:
