What does Tread Lightly! mean to you?

The tent looks a tad close to the crik. Without a clear view of the circumstance I wouldn't totally flag it as wrong. One thing to consider is bank erosion and caving in due to the weight on top of it. Poor equipment choice and placement to sum it up.

You are exactly right. Campsites shouldnt be set up within 200' of a body of water. Being that close makes it too easy for trash, liquids, or any object to fall into the water.

I'm very guilty of the 200' policy. In many areas I go that's not a reasonable distance. But when I can get a distance from the water I do mostly because I use the trees for hammock support. A fire I won't build closer than 50 ft from water, but a hammock or tent that sees only sleeping use I see no problem with being 10' or more from water. All of these are numbers. Good judgement goes a long way.

A key thing to remember is that Tread Lightly! is a set of ethics, not necessarily rules. It is intended to drive more responsible behavior, so yes there is some judgement included.

Great way to look at it sir. You're welcome to go with me any time. I see some dumb stuff while I'm out, especially around Santee cooper swamp SC. In a huge majority of the upper end its perfectly legal to camp anywhere and theres over 100 established sites that are only accesable by boat. Over the last few years I've gone down there I've seen a noticeable change in camping moral. Im one of those that will stop by a campsite and shoot the stuff with anyone. Usually I get asked about my camping supplies and how little I carry and I'll explain why I use what I do. Low and behold, people take note. Luckily there are very very few folks left in modern timed that camp. It takes a special type that's for sure.

Here is another picture quiz. Tread Lightly! also covers fishing. For sake of argument, let's assume this guy is playing catch and release. Anything wrong with this pic?

If you want to go extreme he isnt returning it to the water as soon as possible.
Also holding a fish vertical can cause oxygen issues, which can be relieved by holding them steady under water until the gills re fill.

Yada yada yada..

But then you are moving FROM TL towards Green Peace/Sierra Club language, IMHO.

I wont expand on that thought much because doing so I will offend some people I truly think a lot of.

I'm no expert , but I'm assuming he might want to get that check out.

His sitting Indian style may cause back pain! They should make sitting like that illegal. Its to risky.
