I'm finally breaking ground on a shop of my own (as soon as the ground isn't frozen solid). Trying to get everything planned out before I get started. What exhaust fan are you using in your shop and where did you buy it? I'm planning on an exhaust fan on the end opposite the doors and just looking to see if there's any brands to stay away from or to look for.

All of mine are dayton brand from graiger. Don't buy anything from global industries, they're the harbor freight of "industrial" equipment

Mine is movable. And I don’t have a hole in the wall.

I didn't put one in my new building. Several disadvantages to them. I have bay doors and a man door at both ends, so cross flow is good. I have a 42 or so inch barrel fan that works great in my current shop. I'd vote standalone fan, not thru wall.

I grew up in a body shop and got used to being able to pull fumes and smoke out when painting and welding so I'm a pretty big fan of having one in the wall. My shop will only have doors on one end so cross ventilation is not really an option.

Does anybody have any experience with the canarm brand from northern tool?
