What gears? D44 & 9"

I have a Dana 44 and a 9" out of a 79 f150, I have 35's and beadlocks. I was wanting to know if I should go with 4.56 or something else I still wanna be able to drive it on the highway to get places to wheel. I have a 92 f150 with a 302 in it. Any suggestions would help
 
Depends on the trans you plan to run... I know I had a granny 4spd with 4.10 gears and 38s and it would turn about 3500rpm at highway speeds. Then I knew of one running 4.56s with a c6 on 35s and ut only turning around 2200 if I remember correctly.. hope this helps
 
Just my .02... I have a cherokee and I'm running 33's with 4.56's. I have an auto trans (aw4). I'm planning on doing the same 44 , 9" swap. After the swap I want to run 35's or maybe even 38's and I'm really considering putting in 5.13's. My automatic seems to run better with lower gears as compared to the manuals I've driven. Manuals seems to do just fine with gears a little taller. My rig is my DD and I drive to everywhere I wheel. Like I said, just my experiences, sure others may have different. Hope that helps.

I think I'd probably go 4.56's...but 4.88's wouldn't be that bad considering the OD, and if you ever plan on bumping up tire sizes (within reason) you wouldn't have to contemplate another regear.
 
4.10 gears would put you almost dead nuts back to stock cruise rpm with 35's.

4.56 gears would raise your cruise rpm about 280 rpm's at 70mph which might be needed with the 302 turning the heavier 35" tires. This would leave you some room to go up a little larger on tire size later if you desire.

5.13 gears would raise your cruise rpm about 550 rpm's at 70mph.
 
On my trail only rig. Although it used to be a DD then I had a "restoration by nature" I have 5.13 and 37's. It did great. I wouldn't consider anything else. I build for off road and deal with the on road characteristics. So I just drove slower.
 
thanks for all the input, I'm basicly between the 4.56 and the 4.88. gonna take it up to ECGS within the next week or 2. :driver:
