What gears

My jeep cherokee axles (dana 44) I am putting in my cj7 have 3.07 gears in them . What is the lowest gears I can install with the existing carrier? 3.73??

I've used ring gear spacers with success. Running a Mr Gasket spacer in my front 60 now, had a custom machined thick spacer in my old D46 hybrid.

The way the Rubicon 44 is designed it uses thick ring gears. They come in 4.10 and 4.88. Lotsa 4.10's floating around out there from Rubicons getting upgraded to 4.88. However, carriers are not that expensive. Keep that in mind when you are crunching the numbers. If you had Detroit or something then you should look at thick gears for sure.

I used a thick 4.88 gear set from Yukon.

the carrier for 3.73 and up isnt that expensive....why not just spend the a few more dollars. I would stay way from the spacer. Thick Gears are a option...not sure the avaibility for the 44 though. COuld be possible.

I've got a used set 4.30 thick d44 gears that came out of my rodeo that you can have if you want them.
