recently , I was visiting a new club, which I was thinking of joining, and a cherokee drove by. Very nicely built and I made the comment" nice Jeep". The responce from a member of the club- high position, remarked " thats not a Jeep".He drives a wrangler. I was taken aback thinking that is not the responce I would have expected from a person in that position. To make matters worse I drive a very well built cherokee that i drive daily.35's-4.56's,sye,custom shafts,5 spd,5 1/2 lift, locked etc. I have been wheeling with members of the group occasionally also. So my question to those of you who wish to comment- is,( what constitutes a jeep. )

Whatever your interpretation is...

It is common for people to refer to a "Jeep" as any short wheelbase convertible four wheel drive. Most commonly as the JK, TJ, YJ, CJ, and older MJ/ Military style "Jeeps". Sometimes International Scouts, Samurai's and Trackers fall into this category.

A lot of people also refer to many Grand Cherokees, Cherokees, Wrangler models, CJ models, Kaiser models, J10 pickups, Wagoneers, etc as "Jeeps".

The person who tried to correct you had too much free time on their hands.

ask him what his definition of doushebag is, if he has no response tell him to look in the mirror

Well, according the company that MADE THE VEHICLE, it is a Jeep. That's the brand name.
Seems pretty simple to me.

im a very simple person and I like all 4x4's regardless of make ,model or how much or how little some one has spent on it. The comment really has me looking hard at the club- wondering if that I'm better than thou attitude exists.I've seen it many times before and its the one thing that has stopped me from joining any club so far.

Could have just been witty banter. We're all guilty of that at some point.

It's not my fault Yotas are not as cool as jeeps.

See^^witty banter..lol............................................not.

I liken some Jeep owners the same as cult members. My wife has a nearly stock 97 TJ and it never fails that when were out in it we get the "hi sign" from all the other jeep drivers on the road.Kinda like you see all the Harley guy's do.Funny thing is we dont get that kind of response,or any for that matter, when were out in my built CUCV on 39's.And yeah alot of people think a Scout is a Jeep.

many small clubs are clicky like that, they started up from a small group of similar rigs or member attitudes and if you fit their mold your good if not oh well..

Some other clubs to check out:

CNC4x4 . BTW Is having their Fall Bash in 1or 2 weeks at URE, that would be a good time to check them out. (i know many people in this club)

CTB - (Carolina Trail Blazers) Great club mostly western part of the state, not many functions this way, but there are a TON of members this way... (I'm a member of this club)

Your doing the right thing by visiting each of them. You won't know how you fit in unless you try them..
