OK, I'm working on the computer and wiring harness for my buggy. I've seperated a lot of parts and eliminated most un-necessary wires and components. However, I found this part that I have no idea what it is for. There are no part numbers on it. Short of tearing it apart or tracing all the wires through the harness, I have no clue what it does. Inside the black box there appears to be a processor board of some sort.

It was under the dash back behind the ash tray. It came off of a 1992 F150 with EFI 5.8

Anyone? How about a wiring diagram for this truck and it may help....

Thanks.

is it 4x4?`

yes, 4x4.

all the wires on the wide plug go to the engine compartment.

the wires on the smaller plug go the the fuse box, engine compartment, and to the ignition

I don't have a schematic of the fuse box nor a wiring diagram, so its difficult to know exactly where the wires are going to...

Im assuming it is not the engine ecm right?

not the ABS module as I have that part identified already.

It had power locks and windows. not the engine ecm either as I found that as well.

After looking back at the dash again, I was incorrect in the location. It was located just to the right of the instrument clster near the door chime module.

Rob, Len and I were crawling around under the dash of my 92 f350 installing cruise control on her.I have nothing that looks like that at my door chim module but there is a similar one behind the glove compartment.I've seen this on other f series trucks in the past in the same location. What it is,I have no earthly idea.
HEY<IS THE THROTTLE CABLE STILL GOOD?Mine bit the big one last night and need a replacement.

I wish there was a part number on it... If you have one on your truck, try to see if there is a part number on it and I can Google it. Mine looked like it used to have a sticker on it but is now gone. I'd assume the sticker once had the much needed part number...

On other models, it may be located in other areas under the dash or even by the glove box. This one was just to the right of the instrument cluster just beside the door chime module. It was held on with 2 screws that bolted through the body of the part.

I believe the cable is still good and is still attached. When I pulled the engine, I just disconnected the cable off the engine. You are welcome to it if you want it. I can bring it to the meeting on Wed.

Rob,if you can bring it, man that would make life a whole lot more bearable.I'll check that part.

Rob,the box behind my glove compartment is something else.It has only 1 plug in and it is roughly 4x6.I guess the plot thickens. What is this for? My 92 didn't have ABS.

these are the numbers on the tag:f2tf-2c018-aa
2505213 civ made in mexico

just googled and it IS the ABS module.

already found the ABS module. it has a metal housing. This has a plastic housing.

I looked at the throttle cable and its trash, so I can't help out with that. Sorry.

Whatever it is, it isn't needed to swap that engine into the buggy. Are you doing the wiring harness yourself? It's a major pita.

yeah. I've spent most of yesterday and today taking out the whole harness and cleaning it up to use in the buggy. Anyone have any other good ideas for the harness? I have the complete computer and harness, but I'm trying to figure out the wiring. I haven't really hit any major snags yet. Once I do, I'm sure I'll give up and end up maybe looking for an aftermarket engine/computer harness...

I guess you've found fordfuelinjection.com, but if not it's about the best resource there is for this. The early bronco forums and pbb have a lot of good info as well. The RJM harness is supposed to be the best out there if you can actually get one http://rjminjectiontech.com/ but they are all pretty pricey. And certainly at least buy the haynes manual for the truck.
I did mine myself-- it sucked, and I enjoy wiring. How much is your time worth?

:edit: I've also got an alright EEC wiring diagram in pdf form I can email if you want.

Well, this ford EFI stuff is all new to me, so I'm learning as I go. I haven't done a lot of research on it, just mainly pulling the harness and chopping it up and getting rid of stuff I know I don't need. I'm sure I can get rid of a lot of other wires and connectors as well.

I'm curious how well the EFI/computer engine will run once I pull all the smog stuff off as well.

send me what ya got: rklinger@edwardsinc.com

I'm sure I'll have more questions for those that have experience with this setup.

I'd really like to keep the wiring as simple and clean as possible, but I'm not up to spending $450 for the aftermarket EFI engine harness...

We'll see what happens with this one. I may end up buying one. If I could find one for $200 +/- I'd buy it just to be done with it.
