what is wal-mart coming to

 man I hope they arent made in China!!

Leno had a great line about this -
"And now Ikea is getting into the biz too... aside from being affordable and stylish, you get to assemble it yourself too..."

On a serious note...

Funeral homes charge big bucks for a casket. At least Walmart is bringing some reality to the pricing.

What ever happened to the pine box?

Wonder what the return policy is for these items?????

pffft....they dont even come in XXXL...wal mart is not marketing to their customer base.

My Granddad was an old Cowboy type. My uncles and Mom tried to find a Pine box for him. No luck. So they found the most plain and simple box the could that was close to a pine color. Still pretty fancy. You'd think they could make a pine box that met the environmental specs for a coffin.

Ah, but see it will never happen b/c the funeral home business makes too much money off of the fancy coffins.
See, they KNOW that everybody would go for the cheapest thing they could, suddenly their cash cows would be lost.

I have thought about looking up the specs that they haveto meet, and then building one myself for when I die...

Actually if you are just making it for YOU to use, and not selling it - there are virtually no laws/specs to meet. 95% of legal issues are for selling.
The trouble is... good luck finding a funeral home that will cooperate with you providing your own casket.

In all seriousness, the way to go is whole body donation for science. They'll cover all the costs, and in many cases provide the cremated remnants back to the family. And in the process, you get to either (a) help w/ research/knowledge on some random disease/disorder you may or may not have, or (b) help some poor sap med students learn about what body parts really look liek before they have to go cutting into live people.
Def the way I'm going.
And if you wanna stay "local" most of the big med centers in NC have these programs and, er, can always use the donation...

To everybody who know's me............I'll be creamated and be put into a.........Mason Jar! and that is the way I have it arranged!

I like that Idea. What do they do with your remains? or by the time they get done are you in so many pieces it doesn't matter. Im guessing Cremation? That's the way I wanted to go anyway.

It really depends on the program/what it's used for.
if it's for an organ harvesting/donation, or a specific research study, then they'll take out all the important stuff, rest is cremated, given back to you. IMO, might as well let every sq inch of material be used for osmething though.
If it goes to, say, a cadaver classroom (e.g. for a Gross Anatomy class for med students) everything is in little pieces by the end of 12 weeks. What's leftover is cremated - I believe by default just thrown in w/ all the other medical waste at the med center, but I'd bet if it was requestedt hey'd return soem ashes to the family.

If any of you guys have kids in the WSFSC, there is a group of grad students that go around and give brain-science demonstrations at the schools, Sci-Works etc (I started this group).... they bring REAL brains... we got them from this

Yes, who is this Bigwoody?

My ass is cremated after hearing they break/cut the legs off of taller cadavers.

The "donating to science" is appealing as well.....might be worth looking into. Would it be a problem w/ missing a part or two from cancer?

This showed up at the bottom of the casket page:

What Do People Ultimately Purchase After Searching For Items You Searched For?
Midnight Marble Vase Adult Urn $199.99
Wings of Freedom Adult Urn $174.05
Ivory Supreme Aluminum Adult Urn $154.05
I've got to wonder how they plan to do the cremation...

At least for teaching, they take/use 'em just as they are. The students need 'em as whole as can be.

They'll gladly take ya anyway. Actually, they like having medeical cases etc b/c when it comes to that part, the instructor can use it is an example.

You're not far from WFU, if you're seriously interested I could probbaly find the info for you.
(and I know the guys that head up Gross Anatomy there, they find, er, "bigger guys" to be funny b/c it creates more... er, work... for the students, lol. Sadistic bastards.)
