What kind of a snake was this?

Never thought about termites. Might have to research that one some. I know they love some pine, though, so I'm not sure that's the answer.

I have always heard snakes dont like lime..it burns there belly...I know when we keep lime on the yard we don't see any. Take it forwhat its wort tho maybe we just don't have many around us.

Because it's cheap?

They put restrictions on the stuff in Raleigh after it was found partly to blame for burning down a townhouse development. It was one of those windy "fire hazard" days. Somebody chucked a cigarette butt or who knows what in the mulch. The pine straw lit off, got into the vinyl siding (which, by the way, is gasoline in solid form), burned up the siding, through the vinyl soffit (outlawed that too for multifamily), and into the attic framing. Proceeded to burn about two dozen homes to the ground and damaged a dozen or so others.

I've been using triple shred hardwood for the last several years. Thinking about going to double shred, though. The triple just disappears after six months or so.
nope not cost of purchase, all of them (mostly much older than me) used the insect reasoning. you just don't get insect problems with pine needles. But nothings idiot proof (like the people your describing).

I did the all the field surveying on that subdivision, boundary, staked out the lot's, utilities, streets/curb&gutter and most of the building foundations. It's pretty ironic to me it was Named " Pine Knoll " in retrospect o_O The whole site was graded and the condo's on slabs, not much danger of insects, they were on a tight budget though.

except brick chips or the like.......but I don't really like the look or the cost after having done a entry area around the front deck of my first home

The internets says that wood chunk mulch will feed existing termites, but none of them attract termites, and they all contribute to ideal termite habitat for the same reasons we spread the stuff around -- mulch holds in moisture and warms the soil. YMMV

I think anything that hold moisture allows termites to travel. A lil bit of PM like a termite treatment goes a long way. Other than that I dont think anything is gonna stop them. Best to make sure you have no wood to ground contact or "tubes"

What kind of reit hellant do you use? We went to lowes this afternoon and the only thing I could find was a bottle of some spray stuff that you have to reapply regularly to your lawn or wherever.
Hi,
What kind of repellant do you use? We went to lowes this afternoon and the only thing I could find was a bottle of some spray stuff that you have to reapply regularly to your lawn or wherever.
Hi, I do not remember the name, I'm away at the moment. But it came in a 5 lbs bag and was in pellet form. It has a very strong sulfur/mothball smell and had a pic of a rattlesnake on it. Tractor supply, Wal-Mart or the like should have it. I think it is actually working. I'll check tomorrow and send you the name.

Sounds like "Snake Away" and from my experience neither work. Especially on cotton mouths.

I get mulch from the city of High Point for $15 a trailer load. This is all the wood and yard waste that they clean off the streets or after storms and they turn into mulch. You can't beat the price.

The City of Raleigh does the same thing. I only made the mistake of buying from them once. They just take whatever gets picked up on "yard waste" day and throw it in the chipper. It shouldn't have surprised me to find that the mulch was full of garbage.

same here from the Charlotte place over on Morrison Blvd. Still had the remnants of trash bags in it.

Theres another place down here named Hensons (in Pineville) that sells it just as cheap and its clean. I've just had bad experiences with the municipal facilities.

For those in Charlotte..

The York County landfill literally gives mulch away. They have #1 and #2 shred.
They will fill a 20Ton dump up for free when they have it. Which means when they have it you have to beat the local supply yards or wait until they are full to get any.

Might be best to have him on stilts until the parents figure out what dangers live in the woods they moved into. OR, maybe a bubble. They seem to be popular these days.
