What kind of battery?

One bit of info that may be dated.

I worked for Sears in college (late 90's) at that time they had switched to Exide to manufacture the DieHard batteries, within months they were canceling a contract and suing Exide because of returns, they went back to Johnson Controls and have been theer ever since.

This may be limited experience, and they amy have changed, but this was in Exide's peak, when they were throwing money into Jack Roush's pocket and sponsoring Jeff Burton, and their product sucked goat ass. They may be better now, can't say, but i will nver buy another exide product.

I personally run a Lithium industrial battery. $400 is hard to swallow but the date code on the side says December 9, 1984....

Cause an Optima is almost $180 now. I would like a cheaper alternative myself.

When the heck did Optima's sky rocket? I bought mine about 4 yrs ago and paid just a bit over $100 I think. Still works fine and I have run it dead a couple of times. It also sat unused for 1.5 yrs while I built my current truck. Always brought it back with a slow charge.

We use to run Exide in Volvo trucks, but had trouble with the studs coming loose. Changed to Johnson Controls, and had trouble with acid leaking. Recently changed again, but not sure what brand.

I'm an interstate dealer and yes I can get deep cell batteries fairly cheap..I use an optima, had a red top for 6 years and sold the jeep with it still in there.

I vote Optima. My wifes Minivan came with a Delphi and it crapped out in less than 2 years. Never own another one. My Tacoma had a delco in it and same thing. (Typical for GM parts in my opinion.) Never own another one of those either. I put an optima in the taco and had it another 3-4 years. Sold it with it in it. (Stupid me) for selling the truck. Shoulda' kept it and bought the wifey a $2000 vehicle. (Since she treats the van like one.)

Next time I decide to spend a large amount of cash on a battery, that's where my money will be going too. Where did you get yours?

On teh intarwebs. A place up in Winchester VA, I think.

Probably this place

Not all Optimas are created equal. The $100 ones you buy at Vatozone are a long, long way from a group 34 yellow top. (Which, not surprisingly, sell for twice as much)
