Kitchen sink stopped up last night after using disposal, so wife went and bought some 15 minute drain cleaner...didn't work. I went and bought some foaming pipe snake...didn't work.
Today I spent 3 hours after church (counting time to go to Lowes) fighting this clog. I took the pipes apart under the sink, used a sink auger, and finally also had to stick a 3/8" I.D. hose thru the pipes and use the air compressor to blow thru the clog.

After researching online, it turns out some of the things you shouldn't put down a disposal are:
egg shells
potato peels
onion peels
All of those things were put in last night as the wifey made potato salad.
LESSON LEARNED!!!

Apple peels ruined my pre-Thanksgiving Thanksgiving dinner with the in-laws. Two hours in the basement with a stinking lard-clog thing at the FAR END away from the clean-out, and I had drainage again.

cats are the absolute worst thing to put in a disposal. Its funny, but dont do it.

you should ONLY put cats in if there is fish in there you want our, then its OK

Does this mean I cant :poop: in the disposal if my toilet is broken?

don't waste the eggshells! wash them off good, crumble them up and put them in your coffee grounds when you make coffee. MMMMM!!! (and that's no joke if you haven't heard that before)

what the hell? LOL

what the hell? LOL

Exactly what I thought....so I looked it up.

Apparently it produces a smoother cup of coffee (cuts down on acidity, good for those with ulcers and such)

It looks like it came about during the depression era when cheap coffee was terribly acidic and harsh tasting, so they used eggshells to make it taste better.

What the hell, I'll try it & report back.

I thought the same thing when I first heard it. a big WTF?!?! The I tried it. I fully expected to have a mouth full of rotten egg coffee. Ended up being one of the smoothest cups of coffee I ever had. this certainly falls under the "Don't knock it if you ain't had it" category.

On a similar note
for those of you with below-grade garages and a "shop sink" using a sealed bucket and depth-actuated sump pump... don't wash out drywall mud in that sink... :shaking:

What's the ratio you use?

I usually make a 6 cups on my coffee pot. and for me that's two huge scoops of coffee grounds equaling about 1/3 cup of grounds. and I do about 1/2 an eggshell worth. I haven't experimented or bothered paying attention to what ratio exactly or if more egg shell makes it smoother. But that's what I use.

When ever I crack eggs, I wash them out good, and store them in a Ziplock in the fridge alongside the uncracked eggs.

Sorry i got here late but i have to correct this. Cats do not go in the sink. You put cats in the microwave. Come on guys thats day one stuff
