I need to know what size spindle nut is on a Dana 61 rear. I'm not able to look at it today or tomorrow to measure it but I am able to buy a socket so I need to know what size to get.

The spindle nut uses a special "prong" type socket. You may be able to use a steel drift and a hammer instead. One of them is a reverse thread IIRC.

I looked at it last night but forgot to measure it. It's a hex style nut. I know the nut you're talking about. I think a 60 uses that type of nut. The socket for it has a dowel in the middle that goes inside the spindle. Mine is different for some reason.

Welp guess I'm wrong. What about those 4wd spindle sockets I see all the time at the parts stores? The ones with the prongs on the outer rim of the socket. They're the only ones I've seen over 2".

The d70 rear I rebuit (think I got it from you Adam) had those giant hex nuts. I took them off with a hammer & chisel replaced them with the d60 front prong type nuts. I only need one tool for all 4 corners of the jeep now.

That's a good idea. Thanks Jeff.
