I was born in 81, don't give a shit about cell phones, facebook, "instant media", my wife says I'm one, by definition, just from when I was born. We need to set some rules for the definition!

Me thinks your wife is just trying to give you some hell

I thought 81-96 was Generation X. Freakin' Beastie Boys generation, man.

This is what I assumed it to be.

Now it's pretty much just an insult though.

Internet states that Generation X is early 60's to early 80's.

I had to do a paper on this. The year range has changed over time. But millennials are now generally considered to have been born between 81-96. Most of the time when people talk about millennials and snowflakes, the people they are talking about are the generation after, which is Generation Z.

I'm confused as to how the age group between 37-22 has anything to do with a new millennium. Is it that we graduated hs and officially became adults around the early 2000s?

Your wife is correct unfortunately. I was born in 1982 and am in the same boat. There is a difference in the ones like us though that are just barely born within the time frame to be technically considered millennial and the ones that were born in the 90s and up. When I was growing up, I was told me and my class mates were part of generation X but apparently that changed. Its sucks cause I have never even thought of putting avocado on fucking toast.

Why does it need to be labeled?

Gen that gen this........let those labels stick to LS motors.
I prefer.....Responsible vs Irresponsible. Everything else falls in line. Work ethic, drive, ethusiasm, love, creativity, Bill paying, social awareness.....and the list goes on.

Generational labels are another excuse allowing time frames and outside influences dictate your ability to be a worthwhile human being.

I always figured it was anyone born after 2000 because of the millennium
That's logical, so they (millenials) don't understand it, which is why they are trying to rope in other people.

I did too until I had a similar revelation as the OP did. Apparently it's 1980 up to the new millennium. I think a lot of folks think this as well, and they perceive a millennial to be what is more properly identified as generation 'New Silent' or gen Z

Screw this.

We need to take the 'millennials' term back and shove it on the age range of people we disapprove of!

Anyone know how to edit wikipedia?

I’m surprised the Millenials are not asking to be called “non-generation specific”.

My 13-year old daughter has a friend who prefers to be labeled “non-binary”. I said “so she is analog.”
Does that mean ready to be programmed??

The lead singer in my oldest daughter's band is refered to as they or them. You do not refer to her as a gender.
they are female
they are lesbian with a girlfriend
I make faces and get lost when those discussions come around.

I thought millennials were guys in skinny jeans with nail polish on and girls with vagina costumes and antifa flags in closet??

Whoever said 1980+ is a “millennial”is dumb as a damn rock I’m from 84 and I assure you my age group aren’t part of this I dunno if I’m a boy or a girl bs ... then again I always hung out with the older crowd so they could be right and I just missed that along the way now that I think about it most folks my age are damn yuppies.

I’m from 89 and I work way too dang hard to be considered a millinial. Whatever with labels, it’s all hogwash.

When I think of a millennial, I think of something I’ve come to hate the most... Man bun.

Y’all need to listen to this song.
