I got this gibberish 4-5 times while surfing nc4x4 at various places. Dunno if its just my machine or at the other end...

I got it a few times too.
 
Yes, however it will not help you. This doesn't work on Hobbits :D
 
The server got upgraded tonight (new hardware) and all the underlying software got updated & restarted. You were seeing some side effects from that work. The transition happened right around 10pm, but it took me a few minutes a couple of things running again.
