so we are taking off on vacation to Oregon this fall, we have no real itenerary, no one place to go etc. anybody got any ideas as to what to check out? unfortunately this isnt a wheeling trip, just seeing the country.

Where in Oregon will you be, or all over?

Take a trip down the Pacific Coast Highway, it is beautiful. Portland is also a ton of fun to explore and go around. I love Oregon.

Crater Lake is probably one of the most amazing sites I've seen...

Mt. Hood

If you're down towards Crater Lake may as well hit up the Red Wood Forest in Northern California (Crescent City, CA)...

The Oregon Coast Highway is pretty amazing in the southern part of OR...

I believe they have a museum there too.

Also, heard this was a cool place to visit: http://www.tillamookchamber.org/

Astoria is a great place to spend a few days! Unbelievable maritime museum. Another place to be is Tillamook, really nice town. I agree with Crater lake also. The drive along side of the Columbia river is awesome! Troutdale (outside Portland) is a really neat place to see the houseboats, several have been on the Travel channel. There,s a lot of really cool places to see, the state has water everywhere!

The Rogue Public House in Portland is my fav for downing a pint (or 12). Tell Troy (the manager) "Chapel Hill" sent you and you want the distillery tour!

what are you into, who's going to be with you, how are you getting around....etc..????

lay down what you're looking for, and I'll see if I can help point you in some good directions.

Yeah, it really depends on what you're looking for. I had a good time just riding around Portland... until the dizzy gave out on my loaner car. After that, I had a pretty good time walking around Portland. Lots of DFH, but not as bad as CA towns. Edit: and... probably no worse than, say, downtown Asheville.
