What to do in CA...

Working in CA just south of Fresno for a couple of months. I'll likely have a couple days off mid-june.

Given that, considering what to do those two days. I'd love to come home but its a day's travel just to get home and a day to get back, so it doesn't make much sense.

So, I'm stuck finding things to do here :D

Option 1: Take a day and visit the Sequoia National Forest then head to Yosemitiy for day 2? Both would be awesome but involves absolutely zero wheeling...

Option 2: Rent a Jeep and hit the Rubicon and rush through the trail in 2 days. Or, (more realistically) hook up with a few locals and hit the trail with them. A day trip is pushing it and a 2-day trip on the Rubicon is OK but doesn't leave much time for really enjoying it. Ideally, the trip is a 3-4 day trip. So, if I went, I'd have to push it and hope for no delays.

So, hit the sequoias and yosemitiy or find a way to at least get a taste of the Rubicon trail (and not really enjoy it)??? :D

What say ye? All 3 would be marked off of the bucket list so they are all high priority things to do :)

Couple of months with only a few days off? Talk about suck.
I would hit big sur and Yosemite. If you did Rubicon, spend a day on the trail then go to Tahoe and hit up some casinos.

Rubicon. Will and I only got to spend a partial day on the trail, totally worth it. 2 days would be awesome.

Well, I do have other days off but that time is spent running ECORS races  The only time I have off "here" is these couple of days.

I'm leaning towards the Rubicon. As the kids get older, a family trip to Yosemite and Sequoia may be in the works but the Rubicon is just bad ass now.

Wonder if there are bypasses around the hard stuff and if a rental Jeep would be able to make the Rubicon?

I think you are just saying that to see me get a 2013 grand out on the trail! LOL

Regardless, I think I'm going to try to knock out the trip in a day with a rental, then head south to Sequoia and Yosemite both. We'll see. :D

I'd say you'll tear up a Grand... especially the new ones. But a TJ or JK would do just fine. You could probably do the entire trail in a day with a small group if you kept moving... but would be better to camp halfway. I wouldn't attempt it alone if you've never been there before. The trail entrance is pretty easy to find, but once you get out on the slabs, it's tough to know where the trail goes... there are actually a few that come together and fork off again, so you could get lost pretty easily.

I'd say the other big problem is fuel consumption. You'll burn a lot of gas just getting to the trail head, then you've got to make it from end to end on however much is left in the tank.

But Jeep runs groups of people through in stock Wranglers all summer long... or they did when we were out there.

Just go catch a sst race.. You and Robby are close!!! Lol

To bad you won't be in socal. Know LOTS of things to do there. But, you have to check out the redwoods there. Pretty badass. San Fran is actually pretty sweet. If your a veteran you can get a good discount at the Marine Corps Memorial Hotel in the city. Monterey is really nice. But Yosemite would be top on my list of things to do.

Been to SF in the past and SoCal is not on my bucket list unless its on the way to Ensanada for the Baja 1000.

Looks like I've found a few locals to hook up with to hit the Rubicon when the time comes :)

Yosemite is a fantastic place and I would highly recommend going there. If you go back one day you will be even more excited the second time because you know what you in for. If you fly fish at all you will enjoy the Merced.

The hike to Yosemite Fall, Ansel Adams store and show are also highlights.

Or in a pinch there is always HOOKERS AND BLOW!
