What to do for family fun near little Switzerland? Taking the family to Emerald Village and lunch at the Switzerland inn this Saturday. Any recommendations for after lunch?

I think Mt. Mitchell isn't far from there. Highest point on the east coast. Short easy hike to the top with a great observation tower.

Linville Falls is to the north on the Parkway, and Mount Mitchell is to the south on the Parkway. Both are good attractions.

Anything historical near there my kids love history. Old buildings or anything. Will check out Mt Mitchell and the falls.

There is a visible and exposed fault line on river right above Linville Falls.

226A is a good twisty road to run on known as the Diamond Back. Burnsville has Prices creek gun an what not shop. Spruce Pine is right close by. I'll give you my number if you like since I'm real close to there. Do watch out on 19E due to construction.

crabtree falls is on the parkway and you can come look at alot of fullsize jeeps lol thats at my house.

I think we went to Crabtree last time. Not sure though. It's looking like Linville falls might work. It's the kids trip for getting straight A's all year.

You could also check out the view of the gorge at Wiseman's View or go for a day hike up Table Rock

Roan Mountain isnt far from there either. Bakersville is a cool town as well.

If your going to Linville Fall I'll tell you a back way down called Peppers creek. Starts out dirt then goes to paved. Car friendly.

My 4 year old ended up catching something and Ralphed at the emerald mine. So we finished and headed home. Will go back soon to hit up some hiking.

Nah he just said his stomach hurt and kaboom all over. Three more times last night and today he is back to normal.
