What to do with my 8.25

Im looking to see what everyone thinks about putting lockers in this and what to put in it. I don't want to go out and put something in it thats going to cost a load of dough then turn around a put a Dana 44 under it or something. Its a stock 8.25 and I believe they came with 3.55 gears.

Well first... what year? (27 or 29spline shafts)...

It's still a c-clip axle and if it's 97+ (29 spline) your only options are ARB, Detroit, or Powertrax No-Slip <-- only lunchbox out

If it's 27 spline don't waste your time/money on it..

I ran an Isuzu D44 in the rear of my XJ.. came stock w/ 4.56's, disc brakes, 30spline shafts (1.5" Dia but necked down at the splines)... And all 44 stuff for them is interchangable. Can be picked up at Pull-A-Part for less than $1000.00...

Or you can find an XJ D44 and drop it in....

Ok well then it depends on what size tires and how you wheel.. hard on the skinny pedal?

Your best bet in my opinion would be to find a 29 spline 8.25 and just bolt it in... you can find them for less than $100.00... If you plan to run over a 35" tire or are hard on the gas, etc... then I'd go ahead and look 44....

Yeah Im running 35's right now and have no plans to go bigger as of now. I am not very hard on the pedal, so I was thinking for now the 8.25 would be fine, but once again didn't want to spend a lot of money on it. I have a dana 44 that i will most likely be purchasing in the near future.
 
friend of mine ran 35's on his 8.25 with a very heavy foot on the skinny pedal. Never broke it, although it was open and the 29 spline
 
i have a 29 spline with a powertrax in it, complete from drum to drum. never had a problem with 33's. if you are interested in it pm me.
