I need a new 3rd member for my 92 4runner v6 rearend. I talked to a guy in CA with used yota parts. My gears are srewed up and don't have alot of cash. He wants 250.00 + 20 shipping for a used 3rd with the same 4.56 gear setup. Plus I ship him back my old one. Is this a far price and I have looked into new gears + install kit + Labor. Should I buy the used one or just break the bank and install new gears.. Thanks for any input.

That's a fair price, but you'll probably find $20 to ship a bit on the cheap side. Look in the for sale section here for one. If it's no rush, they show up from time to time. Sometimes with a locker already installed.

Shipping is 45.00 ups and he's only charging me 20.00. I need it to get my DD back on the road. I have a bike but its too hot for me. I wanted to get a lockrite but still cost more money. I will buy one some day... Thanks for the input.

Caveat Emptor.....buyer beware. I get cold chills pondering the purchase of used parts from 2500 miles away. For the nearly $300 you are going to invest, there are people on this site that can locate a third for you or install a new set of Richmond gears. Staying local gives you lots of options. Buying from "Tim" in Temecula California leaves you no options when dealing with used parts.

$0.02

Factory

Isn't that factory gearing? Are 4.56 gears worth that much more?

Did you try junk yards? Heck, I might even have one of those.
