Whats is it worth for on trail repair at URE?

Im glad i was not there. That is WAY too many people for those trails. It must have been like NYC grid lock out there
I went Saturday it really wasn't that bad at all...It was crazy slick so and I was in a loaner with my son so we just stuck to the easy stuff. It took much self control to wheel a YJ with a 500hp motor sporting a D35/D30.
As for the trail repair..I'd put something on the board at the outpost with a number , you can pick and choose customers that way.

I'd have them give out cards at the outpost, possibly have a set cb station to pick up distress calls? Idk. I would enjoy doing something like that until I got the call at 230 in the morning to save some jack ass that was drunk driving and ended rolling on Daniel or something.

Even a recovery service most likely wouldn't be feasible due to insurance; that is if you could find a company who would insure a business for such a high risk situation. Anything goes wrong and the business would be held liable and have to deal with the resulting law suit and damages. For liability reasons recovery and trail repairs should be left to friends, not businesses.

i see many deep pocket rigs and lack of common sense . i believe we can make it happen.

Deep pocket rigs doesn't necessarily equal cash in hand.Alot of those are built on the credit card.I have sold parts more than once to people who were using student loan money or swiping the ol card at the ATM to have money.I always wondered if that wasnt why Tim Cameron always sold his rigs about as soon as they were finished,so he could pay off the CC.

WOW.... that's about the essence of stupid. Let's finance something that will inevitably break and/or wear out on a loan that is supposed to be for college expenses and also cannot be included in a bankruptcy filing.

Yep,met a guy just last month n west Asheville and sold him a HP 60.Payed for it SL money.

If the Forest stays open I could see a use on it but, your building a business somewhere the FS can come in and close the place down therefore putting you out of business. Plus the added cost of carrying insurance. I can see it more as a hobby rather than a way to profit off of others inability to come prepared or just bad luck.

Snappy already has a pretty good business, for which he is well-known - I seriously doubt this is intended as a means of family support

I know, I've fished with Snappy and spent quite a few workdays with him. He asked for input and I gave my 2 pennies.

Just read this thread. Wow. Are off road people changing so much you would need an on-trail mobile repair unit?

We always wheeled with the mission that no gets left behind. No matter what. We drive into the woods as a group...we drive out as a group. We always got broken rigs, (whether they were old Cjs or Big rigs), back to the parking lot and back on the trailer, if need be! We have often done this for people who weren't even in our group! More than once someone has broken right off the bat and we have lost the better part of a day getting that individual going, (preferably), or back to the tow vehicle. And even ran for parts for them so they could get home or join us for more wheeling!

I sure hope no one has ever been left behind, broke down, on the trail!

Guy last we was left by his guys.....and what this would be about is NOT the people on here that go prepared and with someone.

Yeah I would never leave someone stranded on the trail or not.. me and a buddy replaced a wheel bearing hub assembly on my bosses excursion last night in a parking lot

Yea. Sadly, I guess it probably does happen enough to consider some kind of help available.

Would be neat if there was something like the CB Channel 9 REACT. REACT is a series of groups who monitor channel 9 on CBs. Anyone who ever needs help knows there is always somebody listening on channel 9. Not sure what it would take for CB to work in the woods, but I guess one could relay CB communications until it was received?

For those not familiar with REACT...http://reactintl.org/

and here is an example of a local REACT team...http://burkereact.org/
