Whats is it worth for on trail repair at URE?

Im glad i was not there. That is WAY too many people for those trails. It must have been like NYC grid lock out there.

I think a basic recovery service could work. I would only take cash and i would need to see it as soon as i arrive on the scene.
A recovery service only. Payment upfront unless you knew the folks. Repairs off the trails at or in a controlled environment.

Not to pick on the two of you but if they don't have cash what do you do,leave em on the trail and maybe cause a traffic jam of folks who cant get around??? Maybe Im just not ambitious enuf but all I see is headache.

I agree with others, maybe a recovery service would be better than an on trail mechanic. Then have a trailer setup with the typical needs and do repairs off the trail.

What kind of horrible person are you?

So my fun wheeling weekend gets ruined by a small inexpensive part, that yeah maybe I should have checked before heading out but priorities man. I had to get my beer. So anyway, now I find myself broke down, clogging the trail all because of a busted U-Joint. Of course I didnt have room to pack a spare, that would be less beer room. So anyway. Now Im sitting here broke down, clogging up the trail. My weekend is ruined. Of course I dont have any tools...beer room???...so yeah yea yeah you are the tool man. You got lots of tools. We get it. So you finally get your slack ass over here to fix my junk (probably going to take you waaaay too long to get here, am I right?) and now you want me to PAY YOU...Pshaw. You greedy capitalist bastard. GFY.

Hey we ain't there damn mama call her!! Otherwise somebody would be happy to skull drag that rag out of the way!!

That is only 6k. $5 a day for a pass doesn't go very far, even if they brought in that much every weekend.
And to elaborate, because I hoped for this response. This is why 20 dollars a vehicle would be reasonable and justified. 1200 Times 20 equals 24,000. So think that could help maintain the area better?

There's a burned up Land Rover on Dickey Bell. Could be a prime customer.

Funny you mention that, we are on the way to recover it now...

With my eyes closed I would bet this person drives a Land Rover.....

LOL Im guessing theres a backstory to that comment. I'll have to get @Ron to tell me about it next time I see him.

A SeaTow type model would be interesting. When buying a pass, they could have the option to by the "membership" for x amount of $ for the day or year or however you set it up. Say, 95% of the people don't need your service, but you get to keep their fee. The 5% that do call get a "discounted" recovery fee. If they don't opt for the membership, you charge them full price.

I've never been out there. I'm a very casual wheeler. My XJ basically serves as a light trail rig, hunting truck, haul the trash off, do the yard work and around the house errands kind of duties. I'm sure it and the driver are capable of most of Uwharrie and I'd love to go out there sometime. However, I'm not a serious off roader and don't have a stock pile of spare parts and/or a war wagon to take with me or the experience to know what to expect to break and how to fix it, much less on a trail and not in a garage. I don't like crowds or breaking stuff (costs too much and I have too many mouths to feed, lol). If I ever do go, and I'd love to, it won't be alone and I'll be very conservative (do service roads count? ;-) ) and lean on a more offroad ready buddy of mine to go along and support should crap break... and I'm sure something will. I'm originally from the coast and would be a helluva lot more prepared for issues on the water than I would on an OHV trail. I've just never been in the off road trail arena and am not afraid to admit that I don't have the experience, but think it's alot of fun. A person like me may find value in having some "insurance" on the trail should my ignorant arse's truck breaks.

Don't know how that (red tape) would work in a National Forest though.

That said, I don't post much but have learned a lot on this site and even bought from a few of you. Thanks for the forum.

@snappy , was it worth the money to get it out in the conditions? I bet u did it for free (friend), so what would have made it worth the effort? I base too much on my full time job.

This was more of a donation of time. A good friend asked if i would help recover this one and we came and did it. Using the numbers stated earlier the bill would have been $425. So yeah it would have been worth it, but the recovering rigs is still a challenge and fun to me. The weather sucked ass last night but still enjoyed the challenge with a great group of buddies that came along.

That being said, would it still have been worth it if it was just you and 1 other person?
