Asheboro or Columbia? They are basically the exact same distance from my house...

Ive only been to Asheboro, but it was so long ago that I remember very little about it. I HAVE heard that its falling into disrepair, but I dont know if there is any validity to that rumor..

what do you guys think? We are probably going tomorrow...

There is nothing wrong with the Asheboro zoo. It is far from falling into a state of disrepair. In fact, there have been several new things built recently and the sea lion exhibit just had a major overhaul. It is a very good zoo in my opinion.

Ive been to both this year.

1) You can put 5 Columbias into Asheboro.
2) Asheboro is much cleaner and better maintained
3) While Asheboro is a little more coin to get in, it will be a lower cost trip overall. (The $3.99 fountain pepsi's at the burger king inside Columbia with a large no refills sign comes to mind)

I've never been to Columbia, but been to Asheboro twice in the past few weeks. Lots of walking, bring your own food. They won't let you bring a monster cooler in, but any over the shoulder bag, backpack, or stuff it in the bottom of the stroller, you're fine. The zoo is in good shape, def. not in disrepair. If its hot (likely) about all the animals will be sleeping. We got there early and caught the polar bear before his afternoon nap. The gorillas are kind of cool, the kids loved the sea lions circling about. We were lucky and saw the trainers tossing out ice popsicles to the chimps.
That's about it for highpoints. The 2 lions seem like they are always sleeping, the grizzly and brown bears hide. The elephant/rhino/hippo area is so big the animals seem to hangout 600 yards away. I was trying to point 'em out to our kids, but they were more interested in the workers pickup parked out there.
We bought a year membership because it will give us half off the Natural Science Center in Greensboro (which has tigers unlike Asheboro). The milf factor is high during the week, be prepared to listen to a lot of Espanol on a Sunday.

I guess Im gonna call of the trip for tomorrow.

Rain is forecast for both Zoo's and I'll be damned if I drive 2 and a half hours for ANY rain whatsoever..

I live 20 minutes from the NC Zoo. No rain here and it was not as hot today as it has been the last few days. You missed a good day to go!

well damn!

I just didnt want to risk driving all the way down there, for it to rain. Ive only been to Asheboro once, and it rained and I remember it being miserable.
