Whats the jam for onboard air?

I’ve had several iterations of cobbled up crap for air on the trail and want to outfit Blue with something that doesn’t suck.

It would need to have enough guts to run an impact, fill tires etc.

I don’t plan on needing it but would be a nice piece of kit to have if it was needed.

More of a want than a need and a decent topic of discussion… at least for me. Heck I might weld a whisk attachment for a ratchet for making scrambled eggs at camp or to charge a tater gun. And air horns would fit the vintage of my rig.

Co2 with a 120 psi regulator
Great if you have CO2, but my post apocalyptic Helene brain doesn’t want to count on anything that I can’t make happen solo.

I bought a M18 compressor and have been very impressed. Can top off 80psi tires from 60 psi and still have battery left. Not even using the 6.0 battery. Not going to win any races, filled up a 33" from 0 to 30 in about 3 minutes maybe give or take. Ive used it a fair bit on trailer tires, daily drivers and the XJ that seems 1 of 3 tires that randomly go flat after 3 weeks depending on the tire orientation.

I've had one of these on the back of the jeep for several years now. Very happy with it.

I got a dual piston compressor from vevor for $106, acquired 2, 1 gallon tanks. I have a 120 amp relay feeding power and the on/off switch I removed and put a relay in it's place. relay is controlled by a binary switch on at 70 psi and off at 110 psi. Relays are controlled by a ground signal. Still have to run that control wire from the front. Hence the alligator:shaking:clip

Also have a fuse bank there for future power needs. it works well little over 10 cfm. Airs up my 40's pretty quick.

Bought one of these a few months ago and couldn’t be happier. It’s not fast, but you can set it and walk away. Easy for the kids and wife to use too, and just super portable.

I also have 2 Viair 400 series compressors and they are good, much faster than the M18 unit, but no chance of running air tools or seating beads or anything like that. They are pretty quiet though for what they are.

I have the single version from ARB and love it, but it won’t run an impact. You’d have to spend out and get the twin version. Probably require a small tank as well.

Realistically probably don’t need an impact. Battery tools or most likely hand tools. Tank would be nice though in the event a bead needed seated (hopefully not mine)

I have an arb and a 2.5 gallon tank. Works fine. I’ve reseated a few beads on the trail with it. My only complaint is that i have had to fix a few air leaks on the compressor. They haven’t been terrible, but it was still annoying.

I had a viair unit and a tank on my last buggy. Honestly, I liked the viair compressor better. If I wasn’t running an air locker, and just needed a compressor for tires, tools, etc., I’d get another viair.

You got the badass reel too?

that sounds like the jam for onboard air. Can you post pic and details on the setup @BigSouth ?

Well that's something I didn't know I needed, thanks lol.

I have Viair on the tow rig with a 2.5 gallon tank. It makes enough ugga duggas to bust the lug nuts loose so that's good enough for me. I did spring for one of the 100% duty cycle ones.
