Thinking of upgrading from 38 TSL's to the 39.5 IROK'S. I have heard good and bad about the Irok's. Reading Pirate, some love them and some hate them. Would be running on Toyota Axles with 30 Longfields. Would appreciate any feedback from anyone who has them or had them and how they compare to the TSL or SX. There is not a whole lot of choice in the 39.5 range for a Toyota, maybe the new 40 LTB , but could be heavy. Thanks

and to complicate things, the 17" wheel IROK's have a much different profile than the 15's.

How old are your tires? a fresh TSL is better than a 5-year old one by leaps and bounds, something few consider (myself included until a few years ago)

I went from old 38.5 SX's to new 42" IROK's and it's night and day, but alot changed on my rig at the same time, so it's hard to say. The sidewalls aren't as brutally tough as the SX, but few tires are..

Hijack!! I am wanting to ditch my 36 Irocs for some 38 TSLs in descent condition (hint, hint) - but I have H1 rims. I dont really care for my Irocs, the TSL is just a better all around tire FOR MY NEEDS. There will be lots of jabber about that last comment, but thats my opinion.

I have run 35 sx's, 36 iroks, and 37 iroks, so far my favorite have been the iroks. The disadvantages to the irocks are they don't last as long, are prone to chunking on the rocks, and don't do as good in the mud. I love the way the tire carcass flexes on the rocks, and the ride is better in my opoinin. My rig is a very light toyota based buggy, and I believe that is the reason I like the irocks. If i were to go to a heavier rig I think i would seriously consider switching to a tsl or sx. If your running something light like a yota, I would have to say irocks, anything heavier stick with the tried and true tsl's or sx's. Just my oponion though.

I have run 35 BFGs, 33" ssr, 33 SX, 35 SX, 38 TSL and 36 Iroks, over the last ten years. They have all been new at the time I started running them and of them all I like the IROK the best. I'm running a CJ7 and the next tires I run will be 36 or 39 Iroks when these are gone.

iroks suck on heavy rigs, they get eat up twice as fast. only thing bad with a 39.5 which i was running is its has the same tread depth as all the smaller iroks. , it goes to a deepr tread depth at a 42 and they are way meatier. i did like mine and would have them again on a lighter vehicle

I also have a laundry list of tires that I have ran. I would have to say that the IROKS were the best tire ever. I had them on a tj and an xj. Never many road miles, so I dont know about rd. wear. 36 13.50 x 15 on an 8 inch rim. They looked like atv tires on those rims, but I never lost a bead...at 6lbs air.

I am now running Pit Bulls and they are/seem to be just as good...with a tougher sidewall.

 Just give him a big discount on the ROKS, Kyle:beer:

Bought 5 brand new 36x13.5x17's. One of them is about 2 inches shorter then the rest (they are all stamped the same size and have the same pressure). Finally tried to figure out why it's listing to the driver side front - that's the reason. Going to keep it as a spare but, just make sure when you get 4, they're all the same true size.

they are stamped bias (had to double check - best theory I've heard so far) and it's welded. tearing sh!t up is the fun part. if you're afraid of breaking, you need a better paying job.

I run the bias 36x13.50 Iroks right now and I love them! I walked right up a hill that guys running Boggers were having problems. I just got a set of used 39.5 TSLs (in the process of a 1 ton swap)... and as soon as I wear them out I will be putting Iroks back on my rig.

i would have to agree with the majority the iroks rule if your pockets (like mine) are not deep enough for the stickies

Thanks for all the input. Decided to go with a set of them. Mounted them up on a used set of 15x8 aluminum wheels with 3 3/4 backspacing. The 39.5 Irok with 15x8 aluminum rim is about 20 pounds lighter than the 38 TSL with 15x10 steel rims with the fake beadlock ring. Seem a whole lot bigger than the 38 tsl. Here they are mounted up with 10 psi. Going to give them a test soon.
They are wider than the 38 TSL's so I will be going from a 1.25 to 2" spacer in the rear and adding a 1.25 spacer up front. The front axle was 1" narrower before with the TSL's. With the spacers front and rear they will be even and give a little more clearance for the IROKS. May have to tub out the firewall, looks good so far. Just have to test it.
