OK, was putting a hitch on for a buddy.
(As of tomorrow I am "storing" a bass boat at my house. Aka, I have a boat I can use. w00t!)

And there was this weird thing kind of mounted by/beside the rear diff. I couldn't figure out what it was.
Any help?

Its the latest in rockcrawling technology, never again will you get hung up on the rear diff youll just roll right over it.

it is a dampener for vibration
That's what we were guessing,
but it just seemed weird.
And like it wouldn't really help much?

Yea that was my buddy dave's "give up on real answer" theory too. Cept they don't actually roll. So then we went back to drinking beer. Ermm, I mean putting a hitch on.

Thanks.

I saw that on my wife's liberty. Didn't know what it was. I finally gave up thinking about what it was after about 5 seconds...

It's a rock roller. New tech that came out in 2003. I put one on my 89YJ. I haven't got hung up on a rock since I installed it. Four Wheel Parts have them for around $250.
