What's up with NC license plates?

I was sitting in traffice this morning and something got me thinking. I know that NC went to red letters 2.5 years ago. So I was behind 2 cars first one with a plate number of XTX-0000 had red letters and the other cars plate was ZVZ-0000 in blue. Did NC go back to blue letters on the plates? I ask b/c I have had tons of problems reading the red letter from any distance more than 15 feet.
 
Im still trying to figure out why the Blue Ridge parkway plate I pay an extra 30 dollars a year for is made of friggin crappy plastic...:shaking:

No shit.
All it would take is 1 phone call to an industrial psychologist, or anybody w/ sensory/perceptio training, and they would have told them this was a bad idea.

But my question for the OP - I don't see where your confusion would come from. That's just one old plate, one new one. It's not like plates get replaced often.
 
Oh and FWIW, Mary-Land just changed their scheme too.
Used to be black on white, no background. Nice and clear.
Now, they are dark blue (not to bad), have somE stupid War of 1812 logo that clutters it, and the 2nd digit place is now 2 small letters stacked vertically.
I can only assume this was a new way to get a bazillion new possible numbers, but the letters are too small and hard to read.

I guess I missed the DMV going back to blue. They made such a huge deal about going to red and I never heard the switch back to blue. Not really confused just numerically the plate with xtx-0000 was red and should have been made before the zvz-0000 which had blue writing. I just missed the switch back...

It is because "other states do it, and we want to get in line with what they are doing" according to the note that came with my plastic personalized plate. :shaking:
 
I just came back from the tag office and the lady was a real conversationalist :shaking: I asked about the red to blue and she confirmed that they had gone back. I asked about the origins of the red tag and she said she didn't know or cared. She said it used to be yellow and black years ago but all she wanted was for it to change. She hates the "First in Flight" and wants the "First in Forestry" to be the one we use.

I alert the legislation.
 
I just got an updated personalized and weighted tag for my truck and it no longer has the stamped letters. They are now going to a flat aluminum plate with printed letters. Looks fake. so I just used my old tag :D
