I`m in the process of tearing down a Toyota solid axle for my 89 pickup. I will be ordering most of the parts from Marlin and a few things from TG. It`s been a long time since I`ve bought and replaced wheel bearings for anything and back then I always used Timken bearings/races. I`m unfamiliar with "other" brands that are available now and Marlin kits have KOYO bearings. Are these quality bearings or do I need to stick with Timken? Does Napa still carry them?
Thanks

Koyo is a Toyoda owned company, Toyota is VERY picky about quality, you can't go wrong with them. ( Aisin is also a Toyoda company, Toyota is it's own largest customer)

Timkin is also a good quality brand with a good reputation.

NAPA and Carquest both sell an assortment of brands, mostly BCA and National, depending on the application, you may get other brands as well.

BUT, when buying at either store, they have their own packaging, so you won't know who or what till you open the box. To them a bearing is a bearing.

Years ago Napa used to carry all the quality parts. Always bought from them. Spicer,Timken, Bendix, Eklin,....... I guess they have gone to other brands to compete with Advance and Auto Zone.
Thanks for the info guys. Just wanted to make sure on those bearings

If you get a knuckle rebuild kit from Marlin, just get the one with the wheel bearings. When I ordered mine I got a few extra seals and such with it, oh and a couple of cool marlin Crawler stickers too.

Are you going to do the IFS knuckle swap too?

THe marlin kit is probably the best way to get the parts, priced way better than if you bought all the stuff at the parts stores, and unless things have changed recently, you couldn't get the knuckle bearings at the local parts house less then $40 ea IF you could get them at all.

I have NO fawking clue what Pete is trying to say.

I placed my order with Marlin this afternoon. I ordered the knuckle kit with wheel bearings. Until I started researching kits on Marlin`s site I had never heard of Koyo.

I couldn't think of what it is that you swap from an IFS unit to make the front wider. Maybe the hub assy? I can't remember. After I really thought about it I realized that it souldn't be the knuckle.

Wheel spacers is the only thing I know of to make it as wide as the rear. Not planning on using them.
