Wheel center cap

I've got an 86 e250 van. It has those tall center caps on the wheel centers. When removing wheels I paid no attention to them and they just fell out of the wheel center when laying down the tire.
Anyway, now that I'm remounting the wheel and tire the cap is loose and can rotate or wobble when all lugs are tight. I figured just slip them through wheel center from the back and mount...but that didn't work.
Any idea how to install them?

Was there any sort of little plastic ring the went in there to smoosh them up against the brake drum and the wheel?

Nope. Nothing.
The backside of the wheel has a recessed ring milled into it. The drum has a raised area in center. The cap has flange lip at bottom.
It may need some JB weld.

JB weld will make a mess. Use a rubber o ring around the center and stick it through the wheel. Worked for me in the past.
