i'm looking to swap a solid front in a 95 chevy fullsize with a dana 60 or 44 front. I have a 14 bolt ff for the rear. I was wondering whats the smallest rim I could run on each axle? i'm wanting to keep 16's and go with steel wheels but before I start ordering I need to know for sure that they will fit.

I've had 16s on mine 60/14 Traded my rims and tires to a guy who also had 60/14 combo. He is still running them. Rims had plenty of clearance between rim and caliper. You could also grind down 60 front calipers and maybe do a disc brake swap on the 14 bolt to fit 15s.. just make sure your new rims have big enough center holes for the hubs to pass through

Depends on which front axle you go with. I would suggest staying with a 16" or 17". 15s will fit a Chevy 60/14 combo, but only with very little backspacing (around 2" or so and they'll stick waaayyyy out) or heavy grinding on the front calipers. A 15" rim will fit over a 3/4 ton 14 bolt drum, but the 1 ton 14 bolt has a larger, 13" brake drum and it may not fit because they're cast fairly thick.

Now then, if you use a Ford Dana 60, the big ass, dual piston calipers might be tight on a 16, but I'm pretty sure they'll fit. I've got H2s on mine and have about 1/2 inch of clearance in the tightest spot.

On a different note:

A Ford axle would make life easier, but they demand a little higher premium. Not sure if you want to keep the speedo working or not, but with it being a 95, it should have an NP241 and it is, of course, driver's side drop. Swapping to passenger's drop would require a new t-case and I believe all of the pass drop Chevy cases were for a cable driven speedo. I used an NP241 in my 99 Silverado SAS. Good luck on the swap too, greatest thing I ever did to this truck!

To add to my post... I have a ford kingpin 60 that I was running 16s on with no problem

Good to know. I hadn't tried a set on mine yet, but I may eventually put the H2s back on the CUCV and put the Weld rims on my "going to town" truck :D

16s will clear any axle before 99 or so think about it before the late 90s a 17" rim was virtually un heard of from the factory on a truck..15s won't fit a ford 8 lug 44 or 60 without grinding

thanks everybody for their input. as for the t case and axle talk, i was planning on mildly building the motor, with a mildly built th350 or 400, with a 205 tcase. should be plenty tough for the abuse i plan to put it through. obviously with that build list this is gonna be a long build process, with a good mix of fab work and . i just want to have a good game plan set in my mind before i start tearing stuff up and off. and a good parts list of what i need and what i can reuse.
