I'm finally gettin' around to workin' on my '89 XJ and was wanting to give my Jeep a wider stance without having to switch out axles right now. I've looked a little at wheel spacers... are they a good idea and if they are, which ones are good but also affordable?

As stated above not a good idea with unit bearing axles. But, if you were to use them get a good set of Spidertrax spacers. You could also switch to a set of RAM 1500 axles from say 1994-2002. Stronger axles and not too much coin cause people are taking them out of the Dodge pick up and swapping in tons.

I'd say they will be ok if you run mostly on the trail. For a couple hundred bucks you can buy new wheels with the proper backspacing.
