I'm thinking 8 in wide wheel well hold the tire on the rim better and give a taller tire height right or wrong all opinions welcome.

OK, I'm going to get a new set of wheels. Want to run steel bead locks, should I go with Eaton or Allied? What rim width; 8, 9, or 10 in? Running 35x12.5x15 bfg mt right now but will be going up to 37" or 38" when I need new tires. I'm thinking 8 in wide wheel well hold the tire on the rim better and give a taller tire height. Right or wrong all opinions welcome.

Ok now that I can read that I can make some kind of reply. I can't comment on the bead lock question but I can on the tire/rim width one. First off your rim width has nothing to do with tire diameter in 99 percent of cases. The question is how wide will the 37" or 38" tires be that you plan on moving up to? If you stay in the 12.5-13.5 width range an 8" rim should be fine. Some guys have ran tires as wide as 15" on an 8" rim, but when you reach 14.5"+ wide tires you should start looking at 10" rims. Just my .02 .

I ran 15x8 stock rally 88s on a 40x15x15 and it bowed a little in the middle, but I was at like 18-20psi so I didnt really get trouble. When I upgraded to 15x10 i had way more tread on the ground. IF you run a narrow wheel, it will wear out the centers quicker. I did at one point run 15x8 with the same tires as you, and it had tread contact evenly. if you up'ed it to a 38x12.5 tsl it would be the same as your current tires, and you could get away with a 15x8 on high psi to get a good coast going down the road. I am now runing 15x12s with 33x12.5s and I think it looks better when the tire is the same width as the rim, but its like an extra $40 a rim.
