as it says i am 4 linking the front of my truggy and i am contemplating pushing the front axle farther forward. The placement is going to be right under the pully on the motor this will do 2 things it will give me a little more room to work with to do a true 4 link, and 2nd it is going to increase my wheel base from 106 to 112. That is what i want input on. What is everyones feeling on the wheelbase increasing 6 inches. I will have 17inches of break over clearance under the transfercase. I can make it shorter but it just fits good at that wheelbase. So tell me what you think.

I personally think that 109-113 is about the perfect wheelbase for the trails around here if you are running somewhere around 40in tires. Really it just comes down to you though. If you feel a little tippy on the steep stuff then go for it. If not then its just a waste.

If your drivetrain is strong enough, you can always go up a tire size or two to help compensate for the breakover angle. If it were me, I would do the stretch. More things for it than against it IMO.

I run around 112" and it works well for me. Seeing your geographical location I think it will work well for you too.

What size tire are you running? Do you get hung on your belly now or severely drag it over obstacles?

My wheelbase is currently about 111"-112". When I fourlink the rear I am going to move the axle back to about 116"-120". I think my belly height is about 24"

I am currently running 42" TSL's, but will be running the 43" SX's when they come out.

if that means pushing the front forward, so be it. id hate to see you save 3 inches in w/b, but have a four link that dident perform as well as it could. also a plus is the better balance you'd have with the motor behind the axle more. otherwise, it'l keep eating at you untill you tear it all down and redo it again. or youll always wonder how better it could be. is your buggy all that it can be?????? we find out in harlan in a couple months. PS : wear your brown pants!

i run 40's and no i don't get hung up hardly at all right now that is why i am wondering how much it will change everything by making it that much longer. I think i'm going to end up setting it at around 112 and i guess if it sucks i will just have to figure it out later or go up to bigger tires, and i'm liking that idea

your wheelbase

Last year I went from a full bodied 106" rig to a back half 112 rig. It was built on 42TSLs. After getting spanked at Gore,Va on the TSLs, I dropped down to a set of 40"Krawlers on the 112" rig. It did well. We ran RattelRock and Rail trail with it and then Harlan with the Krawlers. I did have to let my winch out on breakover at the top of the exit rock coming out of Rail trail. I think you will be very pleased with the 112. I can tell you some of the goofy climbs at Moab that were run with the 106 rig back in the day and then last spring with the 112-much more stable feeling. We have a buddy who moved his front axle out 12" for just the same reason as you mentioned-clearance for a true 4link, it works well. You should not have a problem with belly clear. if you are planning on the 43sx.
