*warning-this is one of my long winded rambling post*

Move along if you don't like my stories, it's gonna be kind of long, but it's a good one I promise.

So several months ago I was at the ECORS race at Devils Playground and met a girl that came with a buddy and his wife. She was looking pretty good and had a cute little girl with her so I assumed she was married. Noticed she didn't have a ring so I talked to her a little. Turns out she was single and had been for some time after her husband got strung out on pills and left her and her daughter high and dry.

We hit it off and have been inseparable ever since. Our first date was a long day cruising thru Uwharrie in my jeep with the top down talking and getting to know each other in my favorite place. She enjoyed it and had never done anything like it. Fast forward to now and we still take as many trips as time allows, even throw the car seat in and take her 2 year old (Elena) with us who loves it too and now says "jeep!" every time she sees one. I'm actually getting her a power wheels jeep for Christmas. The point of this story? I'm getting there...

Over a year ago I was at a point in my life where I didn't know what else to do but turn to God and go back to everything I had been taught my whole life (I'm the preachers son). I was tired of partying and doing the same thing every weekend, being broke and feeling like crap. I started reading my bible, asking for help and guidance, and the strength to be the man I needed to be. I put a lot of effort into making the changes I needed to make in order to live according to the word. It was not easy at first, I had to leave a lot of "friends" and my old crowd behind. But thru all of that, my life began to change for the better and God really blessed me in several ways. I stopped getting wasted on Friday and Saturday night, so that allowed me to attend work days at Uwharrie where I met several other people that inspired me to get more involved with the off road community as well as walk closer with God and learn more. I met Jason W and several other great guys with the Carolina Trail Blazers and quickly saw that it was something I wanted to be a part of. In addition to not partying and getting up early and feeling like someone, I saved a ton of money and bought a built wrangler which equaled more trail time. I went to Harlan where God worked another miracle in my life which most of you heard about.

So after all these changes I was just a guy sitting at home alone with my dog every night. I began to pray that God would send me someone. The person that was right for me, the one he wanted me to be with, make me a better person, and make my life complete. After that first date with Lindsay I was in love and I knew that she was the one. I can't explain how lucky and blessed I feel to have a girl like her. She is a strong, independent single mother with a beautiful daughter. Her daughter touched me and changed my life, they both have. I owe it all to God really. I'm so thankful. I got a little more than I expected and pretty much got a family now, I don't have a single complaint! I love both of these girls more than I can ever begin to understand. We are both God fearing and loving Christians with the same believes and faith.

So this evening at the veterans ride, in front of everyone, I thanked God for his blessings, the veterans for what they did, then I confessed my love for Lindsay and got down on one knee and asked her to marry me.

Folks, I would like to introduce you to the future Mrs. Talton! And my future step daughter Elena.

congratulations. I got to witness this today also, pretty cool to watch unfold live!! Wish you the best.

Thank you to all of you. The moment was captured on video, as well as a bunch of great pictures by two professional photographers that were there. One lady was from Off Road Adventure Magazine and said she was going to put it in the article.
I'd say I planned this out pretty good and done a good job!

Wouldn't have been possible without all of my great friends in the off road community!

very cool story and congratulations! Looks like you have two beautiful girls to go on lifes jorney with.

Funny how when we get in tune with the oldest of melodies our lives change and the melody begins to show us true freedom. The song plays much as it has since the beginning of time and it will play on regardless of our own instruments. But, when we hear the tune and play along the harmony of the Creator flows through us and we join in the greatest symphony of all time.

I experienced how God changes minds and hearts years ago, and my song is rusty sometimes but I hear the melody and I play along and I feel Him smile at me.

While he is certainly controversial, this video is one that I love. Take a moment and watch it.

Glad to hear your plan worked out! A good surprise proposal is always awesome! She's certainly a looker and her little girl is adorable! It's funny how it works sometimes....you don't exactly plan on kids and you may not want any, but then you meet a girl, she has a kid, you fall in love....bam...instant family :D Just like the "Rescued Dogs" thread, sometimes people need a second chance too.

Congrats again! Did you say somebody got it on video?! You gotta post it, if so!

Congrats Phil. I married my wife 22 years ago with a 3 yo daughter (who I adopted). Now she is 25 and I have another daughter (21) and son (18). Best wishes!

Yeah I'm hoping she posts it up soon or gets it sent to me. I will definitely share the photos and videos as they come available.
