Is there anywhere to wheel in chatham county? Been taking my jeep to a friends place up in garner, looking to ride somewhere closer to home. :flipoff2: :driver:

I know a lot of people used to go to the "flat woods" near Bennett, but I don't know if they still have permission.
And there is another place near there in Northern Moore county that the landowner allows 4x4's, but it's mostly mud with some nice hills.
If you are wanting rock crawling I have no idea.

To the best of my knowledge the Flatwoods area that people used to ride on was sold.

You might want to try Uwharrie. Its the only legal wheeling close to you.

No, the flatwoods wasn't sold, they were trying to but the deal went south, The people tried to stop everyone from wheeling but after awhile they stopped bothering us. Its a great place to wheel if you know where its at. The Siler City side of it is much better. Putnam, near Southern Pines is a good place if ya like mud and water. The Flatwoods is where I grew up, know it very well, better than prolly anyone here, its easy to get lost back there, happened to me friday night.

Stopped bothering you on their land? The people who own it or the people who tried to buy it?

Are you talking about the powerlines at Putnam? They are not legal or open to the public. The hunting club that has the lease on that property looks the other way about people riding there "most" of the time. I ride my Jeep & 4wheeler there with the club pres, his son and son-in-law (my brother). :driver: But you are right its a fun place for mud & water if that is your thing.

And trailhugger, to you, the people who originally owned sold it to a lumber company,Current owners nowm tried to sell it as a community area, and the workers clearing the land were stopping the wheelers, but the community or development if you will, never materialized. Now the lumber company just select cuts the woods.

Good grief, I'm from Putnam/High Falls, didn't thing anyone here would know about the place.

The owner has given his permission to use the powerline trails, we only are supposed to keep it cleaned up and stay on the trails. Some people use some of the side roads and that is where the hunting club may come in.

I was going there in the 70's LOL, showing my age, of course then it was motorcycles and 3 wheelers. Graduated to 4 wheelers and trucks when I got older. But I haven't been there in quite a while.
Seen some idiots tear up a lot of trucks there and really bury themselves too. Some really deep holes and lots of mud.

If I post anything else about wheeling in illegal areas, I'm going to join the band.

This thread sounds like (illegal wheelin). Wonder how long before it's deleted:? Not that I havn't done some myself.

Nah, it's fine. Go ahead and aim it right at him. He's part of the problem as well.

We've all been there done that in our younger years. But, the one reason the board is here is to promote responsible wheeling. I think the thread should stay, and I am adding the links for those unable to search or research.

I am not wanting to see people using the board to plan an illegal wheeling trip:

If a mod ends up asking for a ban vote on this guy, you can guess where I stand.

Want research found HERE in plain sight?
