Wheeling near Lake Gaston ?

I am always out visiting my parents at lake gaston all year long, is there anywhere to go out there or with in an hour or 2 of there ? also i live in Elizabeth City (E-Shitty), NC so if anyone is around there hit me up.
 
I used to live in newport news. Its got to the point if the city or power companies don't own it around there noone else will let you ride unless your part of a hunt club.
 
Nowhere legal that I know of.
Lots of ATV trails although I'm sure they're all private ownership as well.
