Wheeling near Wilmington?

Only legal off-road riding in the area is Carolina beach (north end) and fort Fisher. Both beach driving and both cost money.

is that place in Brunswick County ( or was it across the border in SC) still open ?

I never even went when I lived down there, I heard it was all just mud and rumors management held me away.

Thats no where near Emerald Isle, thats a sand hole on the back side of Baytree Lakes near Elizabethtown / White Lake. It's a fun place for a 2 hr joy ride, but please don't drive more than 30 minutes to get there or you will be greatly disappointed.

Guess my post wasn't very clear - Croatan is near Emerald Isle, Bladen Lakes is located as described by Lefty. Haven't been to Bladen Lakes, so will have to take his word for it, but then the answer to the OP's questions is "no".

I happen to like "wheelin on the beach", although not much of a challenge to the vehicle, as I do get to hang with my Jeep, cooler, fishin rod, and particularly this time of year enjoy the wildlife... :)
 
Having grown up in Bladen County, I can tell you that there are no LEGAL wheeling spots there, and the Forestry Service will quickly tell you where you're not supposed to be.

Not exactly true, the back side of Baytree Lakes is an undevopled state park & riding is legal there, or at least that's what the sign says at the entrance.
