When I say off road shop.....

I define a real 4x4 shop as one that does a little of everything, especially the DD upgrades like lights, bumpers, bolt ons, etc while still being 100% capable of doing custom one off stuff as well. More than just a catalog pusher but not just a builder for hardcore rigs either.

When I think of the closest thing we here in NC have really ever had to a real offroad shop it has to be Carolina Rock Shop. @zubz did custom fab, cages, gear work, axle swaps, bolt on lifts and bumpers. He and his crew did pretty much everything under one roof.

I remember back in the day I would drive to CRSU from Asheville after working at the dealer all week. Andy would have 3 or 4 vehicles there with the diff covers off and up on jackstands. He and I would spend the next 2.5 days in that shop busting butt to get them done.

I think having Off-road or 4x4 in the name will cause some people to look elsewhere when needing regular mechanical help like said upstream. Let word of mouth steer the 4x4 crowd to your shop for their bolt on needs.

Case in point - Lewis Tire on Main St doesn't advertise that he can do lifts, etc but word of mouth brings those people to him. I took my DD there (at his old location), saw his mud truck and struck up a conversation. I don't really use him for lifts, etc but have when I was in a pinch. Hell, get on his good side and he will let you use his lift on the weekends or early in the day to swap tires, mount/remove skid plates, etc.
