i'm about to lift my jeep from stock to SOA but my jackstands aren't tall enough. what should i do? i thought about piling up some 2x4s and nailing them together so they wont be as dangerous but that still seems risky not to mention my jeep might not be completely level due to the metal jackstands digging into the wood. anyone have any suggestions?

The taller jackstands are something you'll use time and time again, and not expensive from Northern. Think about it for a moment... you don't think you'll ever need to support your heep from the frame again?

That said, I've used 4x4's under my stands when they weren't tall enough. Your driveway/garage is probably less level than the jackstands would be, not to mention the frame on your rig.

i just got some from northern that go up to 28", they are 12 ton and cost about 47 bucks, best thing ive bought in a while. Check online before you go, i think the price online is less than in the store so if you print out the page and take it in, they will match the price

hey does anybody make anything bigger than 12 ton and where can you get them cus my 12 tons are at the point where they are maxed out and i am gonna need taller ones

Quit being so damn cheap and go buy some, before you kill yourself. Northern tool has the 6 ton on sale now for $20. I can pick some up for you tomorrow if you'd like, Ian.

I used cinder blocks under mine. I fit 44 and 9" combo up high enough to roll them under the Jeep with 33's on them. One thing I learned, don't use the high lift to support it. They have no side to side support.

The trouble with cinder blocks is that if they fail, it's a rapid crash that can be very dangerous. People do it all the time but getting jack stands is a better idea. They aren't *that* much money, they last for decades, and they are used all the time.

i made my jack stands out of basement jacks that you get at home depot or lowes made a base and 4 legs they adjust up to about 3.5 feet tall i love them

X500 buy bigger jack stands
HF sells 12 tons for like 39 and 29 when they go on sale (like every other month).

Save $50 somewhere, just not on the piece of equipment that keeps the rig from laying on your ass.

Remember it is OK to land on your rig; it is not ok for your rig to land on you

Mark H. got these for like $45 at the flea market, they go to at least 24" or more tall. Same as the big HF ones. The tires are 44's for perspective and the stands are pulled up about 4 clicks.

Lots of old threads about building some on here, just search. When I need something really tall I have an old aircraft wing jack, sorta like a trailer jack. And, I admit I've used a cinder block or 4, but used the thick rock faced ones.

I used a System of Jack Stands, Ratchet Straps to limit suspension droop and either an Engine Hoist or High Lift Jack. to move the Jack stands from the frame to under the axle when needed.

I have used and still use cinder blocks. I always lay them on there side with the openings facing up. I then lay 2"x8", 2"x10" or 2" x12" wood on top of them for the stand to sit on. I think it is too much of a point load from the thin metal legs of the stand sitting right against the block. The thick wood distributes the load across the surface of the cinder block.

have used blocks like this when 6x6s werent available... this is the only way to safely use block, cuz it spreads the load out across the block, and helps prevent the tension and compression on the top side of the block, which casues them to break....
