When to let the Jeep go?

I have no good advice. I was built to the hilt, then brought it back down to th current state hoping to bring the fun back. But honestly the fun seems to be gone because I never go wheeling. I've put less than 1000 miles on the jeep in the past 5 years, and less than 100 in the past 3 years.

But I've had it since I was 16, it's what my wife and I drove off from our wedding in, and I've built and rebuilt every inch of it. I can't bear to sell it, but it makes no sense to keep it.
 
I'm hoping to correct my mistake and buy my old tj back soon. The day it left on someone else's trailer,a piece of me left with it. It was the right move at the time, but times are different now. I'm thankful to have kept in touch with the new owner.
 
Looking back, I wish I would have never sold my YJ that I built. I had too much time and parts in it to give it away like I did. I think what I got out of it is more of a problem to me than not having it. But, coming from someone who has been there, there are always other vehicles on the market when you want one. If you have no use for it, unload it. I might think of replacing it with a hobby that doesn't have a motor though.

If it was a white YJ with a 360, nv4500 on 3/4 tons on 36s, I came VERY close to buying that from you... 6 years ago?

no need to get disgruntled about it. I'm at a time in my life right now where I am trying to get my shit together. Bought a house, got married, got a car for my wife, starting to save, but when you drive something everyday back and forth to work and you lose interest in the sport of wheeling and in your jeep, it hard to justify to drive this gas guzzling, not comfortable jeep everyday to work.
and me wanting a bike is an interest of mine and I wouldn't mind working on a bike and learning more about them because it interest me, not to say that wouldn't change after a while, but having a DD car that I can use to drive to work when its raining or cold and then having a little motorcycle to drive on the nice days and take little rides on the weekends is something that I believe would make me happy.
 
You want a motorcycle, but last time you posted about one you said you couldn't ride a dirt bike. couldn't work the clutch? I hope you have a heafty life insurance policy.

Yeah, if you can't ride a dirt bike but you want a street bike you had better go get a moped... I'm not being an ass, it's just straight fact! Gotta crawl before you walk. There's even a huge difference between dirt and street. Seriously... Look into a motorcycle training course...

I only asked for his sake I live right by the park way and use to ride it everyday, I've been first on a wreck several times and seen some pretty ruff stuff. Part of the reason I got rid of the bike I had, that and I got to where I wasnt scared of it anymore, put it up for sale the day after I realized it didn't scare me.
 
I used to ride daily, I was always respectful of the bike and scared of other drivers. I had a few wipeouts myself, mostly my fault and my ignorance.

That dirt bike incident was a long time ago. I doubt its written in anyones DNA how to ride a bike. Never knew how to wheel before I bought a Jeep, Never knew how to shoot till I bought a gun, Never learned anything until I tried it.
I have been on bikes since and while I am not the best rider out there (actually pretty far from it) I shouldn't let that keep me from never learning.
 
I wasn't trying to insinuate that you shouldn't, but a basic motorcycle skills course could teach you a lot that you don't already know. I rode bikes for years and still eventually took a riding course. It'll actually save you on your insurance too.
 
I have been rideing my hole life I'm very lucky to still be alive had more wrecks then I can count on the street I still ride and occasionally race but never commute on my bike it's a numbers game the more time your on it the more likely you are to get hit. So I chose to spend my time having fun rather then going to and from work in such a high risk vehicle.
 
I've got my full endorsement and took the MSF class. Its worth it. You'll know by the end of the class whether you will want to keep riding. I was one of the more experienced riders in my class and still struggled through some basic skills. Watching my instructor take his new Goldwing with a trailer behind it through the same courses without putting a foot down, was pretty damn humbling. Go to a few local shops and ask who they recommend as an instructor and where they teach. Start there.
 
Oh I'm def. going to do the course. But I would like to get a bike and familiarize myself with it and work on it and do anything that needs to be done to it before I go out riding.
 
I will add that a dirt bike and a street cruiser are completely different animals.

I sold out a long time ago as well. Wife wasn't into and I was just dumping cash into. I can't recall what you've done to your XJ but they are pretty good reliable every day rides. No shame in not wheeling it.
 
I sold mine several years ago. Went back to 2 wheels. I couldn't be any happier. There are time that I miss it but not often.

And I have both street and dirt bikes and the whole family rides. The wife has an atv as does my youngest. 16 year old son has a dual sport
